  2. Can you be part of more than one? What is culture? • Historically grounded, culture includes values, beliefs, and practices which are shared by a group of people • Culture can be invisible and visible, and can evolve over time • Culture is fluid and changing

Board Policy on Citizenship Board Citizenship Goal: • Each student will be a responsible citizen by being an informed and involved member in his or her local, national and global community – within the context of our diverse rural environment. • Research is clear – the best way to do this is with students is to be outgoing and live as the other.

Ivy Lerner Frank How did it all begin? • 6 years ago I attended a BCCIE summer conference where I met Ivy Lerner Frank. • We discussed recruitment of students to Nelson from India. • The end result – in 2016 we were matched by Ivy to Archana, a principal of an elite school North of New Dehli, RishikulVidyapeeth School.

  8. RisshikulVidyapeeth School • RishikulVidyapeeth, Sonipat is a co-educational private school located in Sonipat, Haryana, India. The school has a strength of 200 teachers at the senior and junior level, and an enrollment of three thousand students. • RishikulVidyapeeth, Sonipat, was established in 1990 by director Shri Shri Krishan Sharma (former principal and director of ShambhuDayalMorden School, Sonipat). The school was opened in Sonipat City in 1988 and later on a new branch was established at Devru road, Sonipat

  9. Youtube School Differences • The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and is involved in preparing students for the All India Secondary and the Senior Secondary Examinations. It conforms to the curriculum laid down for the 10+2 pattern of education.

  14. Spices, horses, gifts…… Once in Sonepat, the students will go directly to the school dorms for their first night and breakfast and opening ceremony and day at the school. After the day at the school, all students will go to their homestays and chaperones will stay in the school residences.

  19. The Exchange Particulars Getting ready to depart: ~Read and respond to all email within 48 hours ~ apply for the Indian visa – within the next two weeks. Submit your receipt for this to Sandy by email only. jann.schmidt@sd8.bc.ca~book an appointment to get your immunization in place for India – check with your local doctor ~do not purchase the malaria vaccine – expensive and doesn’t work. You may purchase the malaria pills but don’t start taking them before we depart – it is not malaria season in India and the pills can be taken at first sign of fever and will kill the malaria. ~make sure you attend every meeting or at least the same person from each family. We welcome the entire family team – parents and traveler to each meeting. ~medical is covered for all participants and will be booked through the travel agent. ~start thinking about what you will pack and what you will take for gifts for your homestay family. When they are gone, they will post pictures each day with a short message for you to enjoy. Please, if you want to send a personal message to your son or daughter, do so as a private message to them and not part of the group message.
