  4. Queen Hatshepsut and Akhenaton TAKING POWER Queen Hatshepsut was the first woman to rule as pharaoh. She was the wife of a pharaoh who died soon after he took power. Hatshepsut then ruled with her stepson, Thutmose III . In 1472 B.C. she declared herself the only ruler. She wore a false beard reserved for pharaohs alone. Reform ends Akhenaton’s new religion did not last long. Three years after his death, a young relative named Tutankhamen became pharaoh in 1333 B.C. This boy relied on advisors to help him rule Egypt. They convinced him to reject the new religion and worship the old gods - Kaylee

  7. Hatshepsut Mysterious End • Hatshepsut died after 15 years of ruling. • After her death Thutmose the third became pharaoh and tried to destroy all records of Hatshepsut’s reign. • Rumors say that Thutmose the third might of killed her. • We know more about likely causes of her death. The mummy shows signs of arthritis, many dental cavities and root inflammation and pockets, diabetes, and metastized bone cancer. She was also very heavy. Some other signs show of a skin disease. • Some people think that it is most likely that the metastized cancer killed her. • Another theory is from the dental root inflammation and pockets. In this theory, an extraction of a tooth resulted in an abscess which, in her weakened condition from the cancer, was what actually killed her (info found from ThoughtCO.) https://app.discoveryeducation.com/player/view/assetGuid/d6d1c49c-a63c-4500-ac07-bb20e519cde4

  8. In 1353 b.c., Akhenaton made Aton, the sun god, the main power of egypt. When this happened, priests who worshipped other gods suddenly lost power, and they were FURIOUS. And feared that the old gods had been angered by this, so Akhenaton moved around 200 miles away from the city and started a new one, called Akhetaton. A NEW BELIEF

Egyptian art work usually tried to show perfect beauty. Under Akhenaton, that changed. For the first time, a pharaoh was shown realistically. For example, carvings of Akhenaton show his large stomach. BY: Natalie
