  2. Lifeboat • A strong boat specially built for saving lives at sea or along the coast.

  3. Deck • One of the floors or platforms extending from side to side and often from end to end of a ship.

  4. Steward • A person employed on a ship to look after passengers

  5. Officer • A person who commands others such as a major, captain, or an admiral

  6. Stern • The rear part of a ship

  7. Bow • The forward part of a ship

  8. Oars • Long poles with flat blades at one end, used in rowing.

  9. Anchor • A heavy shaped piece of iron or steel attached to a chain or rope and dropped into the water to hold a ship in place

  10. Porthole • Opening in a ship’s side to let in light and air.

  11. Lookout • Place from which to watch. A crow’s nest is a look out.
