  4. Conic Sections • A conic section is any figure that can be obtained by taking a slice of a double cone.

  5. Multiple Definitions of Parabola • The graph of a quadratic equation is called a parabola. • If a cone is sliced at the correct angle, the result is a parabola. • A parabola is the set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a given point (called the focus) and a given line (called the directrix).
