  1. Budget CutsN.T.L.B Amina Halwani Patricia Alfaro Zeinab Hashem Amanda Fawaz

  2. Conflict • Jennifer Granholm took office in 2003. She has been cutting money from state budgets. But now she wants to cut school budgets. • Jennifer Granholm signed a massive education budget cuts, the Dearborn Board of Education approved the elimination of nearly 300 jobs. • Its going to cut 10 million dollars from schools budgets. District statewide are slashing everything from academics to athletics– even community programs—to balance books. • Teachers and students will be shuffled to help fill voids. • 45 students will be in each classroom • 144 teachers are laid off with out any jobs.

  3. How will this effect us? • Us as students will not get the right amount of education we need. • Parents/teachers who have families can’t support their family’s • More students=More chaos • Favorite activities are getting cut such as sports. • The unemployment rate is already 7.6% This is going to increase with the budget cuts.

  4. So What is the solution? The solution is to build a school where the teachers that are getting laid off can teach at. This school is called N.T.L.B. Which stands for No Teachers Left Behind.

  5. Where is N.T.L.B located? N.T.L.B is in Flint, Michigan. AminaHalwani’s uncle generously donated his old 100,000 square feet gas station to us for free until we can pay him. The school will be in tents at first because there is an empty area right next to the gas station where the tents will be set up.

  6. How does N.T.L.B work? • N.T.L.B. is an school from grades K-12. • Pay $85 for food, and shelter, or pay $100 for food, shelter, and transportation. • Don’t worry your money will be refunded after we get settled down.

  7. How will you pay for this school? • Box tops has a program called Earn Money For Your School. All you have to do is collect box tops and send then in. • We will be doing many different fundraisers. • Last, we will share a booth with Zeinabs cousin in the Arabic festival. We will ask for donations

  8. Food and Furniture Food will be provided by ZeinabHashem’s dad. He owns a restaurant in Ypsalanti, Michigan. The only catch is that we must pay him back $500 as soon as we have the money. Each morning one of the owners will drive to the restaurant and get the food. The furniture and school supplies will be from the salvation army. There we found everything needed to build a camp school.

  9. Student comments • This is a good idea because not many people would be generous enough to help the teachers, after all, how do you think their going to support their family without a job? Bri’Ana Fletcher • It would be a nice idea to make a school for teachers so they don’t have to struggle to find a job. Isnad, Olaa • Its clever, because it can stimulate the economy by giving hard working citizens job opportunities, based on performance not seniority. Ali Albattat • Good riddance to all darn teachers, because MOST of the teachers don’t care about us. ~Mortada

  10. Teacher comments • It is a shame that in the middle of the year there are budget cuts and it is a disruption. –Ms Bublitz 3rd grade teacher. • The more students you have the harder it is to give them what they need. There is a lot of kids with diverse needs some need help with knowledge and language and some kids need to be pushed. –Ms Gorman library specialist. • The kids don’t get helped as should be. –Ms Linda McCarty, media specialist.
