  2. Making Sense of Preschoolers • Did you ever wonder why preschoolers are so impulsive, precocious, resistant, hilarious, and anything but consistent? • Have you tried every discipline technique and strategy with your preschooler to no avail? • Do you know what kind of PLAY is the most beneficial for your preschooler ? • Do you know what programs your preschooler's brain problem solving networks? This course is a must for all expectant parents, parents, day care providers, play group facilitators, and early childhood educators who wish the preschoolers in their care to become all they were meant to be. We invite YOU to attend our 6 SESSION NEUFELD COURSE Making Sense of Preschoolers • Start: Tuesday, May 26 • Every Tuesday and Thursday for 3 weeks • Time: 7:00 to 9:00 PM • Location: Yukon College Handouts and Certificate of Attendance provided! For more information and to register please phone Elisabeth at 867-536-7479 or e-mail gentlestepsyukon@yahoo.ca. Gentle Steps thanks United Way of Yukon and Canada Post Foundation

  3. Gentle Steps Family Support Center Maybe you have heard already that Gentle Steps discontinued the Equine Assisted Program in fall 2014. It has been anything but an easy decision to let go of that part of our program. In case you wonder why, there is certainly more than one reason that caused this decision. Other communities have shown interest in the Neufeld Parenting courses and as course facilitator, I may travel more frequently in the future. Finding volunteers for taking care of the horses in winter has been proven to be a challenge (and hey, who blames them, scooping frozen horse poop at – 30C can be unpleasant). We do not have a farrier in town, and I have been maintaining the horses hooves over the last 7 years. Trimming horses‘ hooves is hard on the body and my back does not agree anymore with that kind of work. We believe in the old saying 'No Hoof, No Horse', and horses' hooves need to get trimmed every 4-8 weeks, depending up on the individual hoof, to keep them strong and healthy. We thank Cliff Hanna, horse dentist and farrier, Whitehorse, for guiding and mentoring Elisabeth's farrier work over the years! Since last year, I am also coordinating Big Brothers Big Sisters in Watson Lake. As many of you know, we also offer Neufeld courses regularly (keep your eyes open, we will offer one in May!), and for parents who want to focus on their specific challenges and needs, we also offer individual parent education. So time had become an issue too. Last but not least, our Equine Assisted Program was a rather expensive service. We do not receive core funding and need to be very inventive to keep Gentle Steps going. Reducing our costs was a good idea. Our two horses, Hawkeye and Prince, have both found wonderful, loving homes in British Columbia. Hawkeye will turn 19 this spring and a milder climate suits him well. I receive updates about the boys regularly and so far, both have been doing great. Having all that said, we thank everyone who has supported our Equine Assisted Program in any way, shape or form. We could not have offered our valuable service for so many years without you! We also want to thank all parents who signed up their kids for our program, as we could not have done it without you either! A heartfelt thank you to all the young people, who wanted to be part of our program. You and the horses have been the beating heart and soul of our Equine Assisted Program! We are working on a new program, ASPIRE, that will be available for children from 6-16 in the summer months. More information about this program will come soon! Please visit our web site at www.gentlestepsyukon.com for more information about our other services! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to phone me at 536-7479. I wish you all a wonderful summer! Elisabeth Lexow Program Coordinator/Facilitator

  11. FYI If you have a friend or family member etc… that is no longer receiving the rolling ads can you please tell them the following: Anyone with a northwestel.net email address can no longer receive them, northwestel classifies them as spam or junk and they kick back to me. Due to the fact that I send so many northwestel them blocks me ability to send emails. So if anyone you know would like the rolling ads again they must get a different email provider or speak with northwestel. I am truly sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing.
