  3. What is a global citizen?

  4. Global Connections (p. 257) • There are 4 key global connections: • Political Connections • Trade Connections • Cultural Connections • Travel Connections

  5. Global Connections (p. 257) • Political Connection: Countries benefit from good relationships with each other. There are special offices (embassies, consulates) in other countries to promote connections through trade, cultural, and travel.

  6. Global Connections (p. 257) • Trade Connections: Technologies help make trade connections fast and easy. We import products such computer parts (Taiwan), chairs (Sweden), or bauxite to make aluminum (Guyana). We export products such as paper, fish, minerals, and artwork.

  7. Global Connections (p. 257) • Cultural Connections: We have family and friends from all over the world. We watch TV, read books, and listen to music from various countries. • Travel Connections: We can travel for holiday, work, or to visit family. Professional sports teams play games against teams from various countries.

  8. The Global Village (p. 258) • Global Village: Describes the impact of communication and transportation technologies, which have reduced the distance between different parts of the world. • Look at figure 17.4. answer the questions in the yellow box “Focus on Figure 17.4”.
