  4. Mary Shelley’s famous text is a poignant portrayal of complex familial relationships that has transformed into a feature film. Introduction

  5. Speculate as to why scenes/dialogue/ actions have been taken out • What effect do they have on character portrayal, pace of the text, meaning of the text? Omissions from the script

  6. Visual presentation and interpretation without altering the dialogue? • Set location • Significance of travel and transport • Set design/ directions/movements/gestures/attitudes/inflections, not suggested in the original text? Additions:

  13. Sophisticated analysis of the ways in which meaning is altered when the text is transformed • How has the meaning been altered? Are there any sub-plots that arise within the transformed text that are not explicit in the original? What is the main focus of the novel as opposed to the film? How does your chosen scene change from the original text to the transformed text in relation to the overall meaning of the text? Criterion 4

  14. Considered selection and high-effective use of textual evidence to support an interpretation • Ensure that you know BOTH versions of your chosen scene well. You need to draw comparisons between the two using textual evidence, including but not exclusive to, quotes. • Discuss the differences and similarities of your chosen scene, keeping in mind the overall meanings of the individual texts. Criterion 5

Highly-expressive and coherent development of ideas • Make sure that you PLAN your essay effectively and thoroughly! • Unless you are confident in your approach, adhere to the 8 paragraph essay structure. • REMEMBER, this is an academic essay and is to be approached accordingly. Remain sophisticated in your language and sentence structure use, do not underestimate the value of grammar, punctuation and spelling! Criterion 6
