  2. OUTLINE • Motivation • Introduction • Problem Statement • Proposed Solution • Results • Conclusions • Future Work

  3. MOTIVATION • The motivation for this project came from Dr. Kilgore’s EET 354 class. WE were studying antennas and talked about homemade ones found on the internet. • After finding out how much my first idea for a project would cost, I Decided to go with making an antenna using a wok.

  4. INTRODUCTION • Didn’t take long to assemble • Was not very hard to build • Overall cost around $85 (wok and stand free) • One problems with communication with router. • Easily corrected. Just not desirable.

  5. First there was a wok. • Then there was a stand. • Went to Wal-Mart to purchase the USB adapter. • Went to BestBuy to purchase the USB extension cord. • Holes were drilled into the wok for a USB slot and for a Screw to the stand.

  6. PROBLEM STATEMENT • The antenna would not communicate with the router. • The USB adapter needed to be keyed into the router in the WIFI protection. The router did not ask for a key. • Because of this there was no communication so long as there was WIFI protection. • Was very sore for my mind!! • But, it was very easily corrected.

  7. PROPOSED SOLUTION • The answer…. No WIFI protection. • Crazy, but that was the deal with the Linksys router from Kilgore’s class. Any other router may ask for the key. • No WIFI protection is no way to go though this setup. • However this solved everything.

  8. RESULTS • After the mind sore of trying to figure out how to type in a key, the results were exceptional. I had full service to the router I hooked up to my computer. Also full service to EKU’s WIFI and 1 bar for Chapel.

  9. CONCLUSIONS • This is something that I wanted to try to see if I can make an antenna that is just as good as some from retail. This may be cheaper than some, however I would buy retail. Really a no brain decision. • This class gave me the impression that it’s worth giving a chance to create something, even as ugly as my antenna, a try to see if it competes with some expensive retail. Although one project may not always turn out the way it was hoped, the next project may turn out perfect.

  10. FUTURE • Would like to improve reception. • Need to do some more research in gaining more reception • Design is non desiring. So that needs work too.
