But a number of key variables cast a cloud of uncertainty around the industry's future. Based on new research from IBM Institute for Business Value, this presentation sets out several plausible future scenarios and outcomes. • Session #2: Reduce OpEx through Smarter Tower Operations • Speaker: Steven Teitzel, Global Solution Executive, Global Telecommunications Industry, IBM • Smarter Tower Operations integrates management of a mobile network passive infrastructure into the active network management providing an improvement in availability, reduction in OpEx and an ability to intelligently manage energy and carbon footprint. Through instrumentation of the mobile passive infrastructure and interconnecting with the active mobile infrastructure, mobile operators apply business intelligence to energy and operations to drive improvements providing Smarter Communications. • Sesssion#3: Capitalizing on Cloud: Creating IT flexibility and a new service line • Speaker: Debra Osswald, Global Telecommunications Industry Strategy Leader, IBM • The benefits of cloud are too great for CSPs to ignore. Beyond gaining the internal advantages of a dynamic infrastructure, cloud enables CSPs to re-deploy the cost savings from their infrastructure investments into creating a new revenue stream of high-value services delivered in a cost-effective manner. Small and medium businesses, in particular, can benefit from the flexibility and affordability of cloud-based services. • Session #4: Digital Channel Transformation: Enhancing the online customer buying experience • Speaker: Edward H. Paterson, Partner, Global Business Services for Telecom, IBM Global Business Services • In the drive to achieve the sometimes conflicting goals of cost reduction and enhancing the customer experience, operators are increasingly attempting to grow the number of on-line transactions. 4. IBM Speakers and Topics at MWC 2010 • Session #5: IBM's $100M Research Investment: How it will change your business • Speaker: Paul Bloom, CTO Telecom Research • IBM Research has started a major initiative around Mobility.
