  2. Release 2001 In May 2001, Hampson-Russell will release an update of the entire HRS software suite for Unix and PC platforms: Geoview: Well log database and analysis eLog: Log editing and display AVO: AVO modeling and analysis STRATA: Seismic impedance inversion Emerge: Multi-attribute analysis Pro4D: Time-lapse analysis ISMap: Geostatistical analysis GLI3D: 3D first break analysis This presentation gives a summary of the new features.

  3. Geoview • GeoView is a well log database. • It reads logs in a variety of formats, including: • General ASCII • Las • GMA Ascii • Landmark OpenWorks • New: Geoframe 3.8 • GeoView can launch other HRS applications and pass logs to them.

  4. Geoview • New: Geoview can now copy the entire database to a new location • Or: • Geoview can copy logs from one database to another.

  5. eLOG • eLog is used to display and edit logs.

  6. eLOG • New:eLog now contains enhanced options for blocking and editing.

  7. eLOG • New: this display shows how eLOG is used to modify the thickness of a layer.

  8. eLOG • New:eLog now contains an enhanced list of transforms from one log type to another, including: • Water saturation from porosity and resistivity. • Vp/Vs ratio. • Density to porosity and the reverse.

  9. eLOG • New: Fluid Replacement Modeling (FRM) now has the option to exclude zones using combinations of logs:

  10. AVO Modeling • AVO Modeling is the module which : • Edits logs. • Extracts wavelets. • Creates synthetics. • Correlates synthetics with seismic data. • This module has been completely re-written and is now available on both PC and Unix platforms.

  11. AVO Modeling • New: Any number of models may be created from a given well. • For example, you may create a model showing the “Wet Case” and one showing the “Gas Case”, both starting from the same logs.

  12. AVO Modeling • Each model appears within its own AVO Modeling window, with the full analysis capability.

  13. AVO Modeling • New: Seismic volumes may be loaded into the AVO Modeling window for comparison with the synthetic. • These volumes may be 2-D or 3-D, pre-stack or post-stack. • Any number of volumes may be displayed.

  14. AVO Modeling • Log Correlation is the process of manually correcting errors in the depth/time curve. • The application of Log Correlation is exactly like a check shot correction.

  15. AVO Modeling • New: Any number of synthetics may be created and displayed.

  16. AVO Modeling • New: In addition to appearing in the AVO Modeling Window, each synthetic also appears in the Pro3d Analysis window. • In this way, AVO attributes may be easily calculated on the synthetic.

  17. AVO Modeling • New: A very useful option is Systematic Changes, in which a group of synthetics is created simultaneously by modifying two parameters:

  18. AVO Modeling • The result of the Systematic Changes is a 3-D volume of synthetics, in which the Inline represents one parameter and the Xline the other parameter.

  19. AVO Modeling • The 3-D volume may be processed just as any other volume. • This picture shows the target amplitude dependence on Porosity and Water Saturation. Porosity Saturation

  20. AVO Analysis • Pro3d is the AVO module which analyzes real data. • It can also be used to analyze synthetics to determine which AVO attributes are most useful.

  21. AVO Analysis • New: Seismic data is read in one of three ways: • (1) SEGY files from disk • (2) 3dv files directly from Landmark projects • (3) Files created in other Hampson-Russell projects.

  22. AVO Analysis • New:Pro3d has extensive features for analyzing the SEGY headers to make file reading easier. • Pro3d can now use both x-y coordinates and inline/xlines from the headers

  23. AVO Analysis • If a post-stack horizon is imported, it appears as a constant time across each CDP gather.

  24. AVO Analysis • New: The imported post-stack horizon may be used as a guide for automatic pre-stack picking.

  25. AVO Analysis Post-stack guide picks: After automatic picking:

  26. AVO Analysis • New: AVO attributes may be calculated directly on picked amplitudes. • This reduces RNMO and wavelet interference problems.

  27. AVO Analysis • From the Gradient Stack, a cross plot may be calculated showing Gradient against Intercept. • New: Cross plots may be generated between any two volumes.

  28. AVO Analysis • Zones may be interpreted, which separate the wet trend from the gas zones.

  29. AVO Analysis • New: The interpreted zones may be displayed on the 3-D volume.

  30. AVO Analysis • New: Multiple data slices may now be created at one time.

  31. AVO Analysis • New: Multiple data slices may now be created at one time.

  32. AVO Analysis • New: Multiple data slices may now be created at one time.

  33. EMERGE • Emerge is a program which predicts log properties from seismic attributes.

  34. EMERGE • New: Emerge has new options for smoothing the input target logs.

  35. EMERGE • New: Emerge has new options for smoothing the input target logs.

  36. EMERGE • New: Emerge has a significantly improved display of the predicted logs.

  37. EMERGE • New: The display now offers full flexibility and control.

  38. EMERGE • New: There are many important new features for controlling the attribute selection.

  39. EMERGE • The new features include: • The option to use the validation criterion in determining the attribute order.

  40. EMERGE • The new features include: • The option to use discriminant analysis in determining the attribute list. This is especially important for classification problems.

  41. EMERGE • The new features include: • The option to apply internal attributes to the external volumes. This is especially important for AVO applications.

  42. STRATA • STRATA is traditionally used to perform acoustic impedance inversion.

  43. STRATA • New: A major improvement is the ability to perform AVO inversion using Elastic Impedance or Lambda-Mu-Rho (LMR) algorithms.

  44. STRATA • New: We can now easily transfer data from one HRS program to another.

  45. STRATA • For example, AVO attributes from Pro3d can be transferred easily to Emerge.

  46. STRATA Near angle • Angle stacks can be transferred easily to STRATA for Elastic Impedance Calculation. Far angle

  47. STRATA • New:STRATA can now cross-plot two inversion volumes over a window.

  48. STRATA • New: Zones can be picked on the cross plot.

  49. STRATA • New: The zones can be displayed back on the inversion results.

  50. STRATA • New:STRATA can now be used to pick horizons on the inversion result.
