  3. The sun gives energy to the PRODUCERS!Plants are called producers, because the PRODUCE their own food!!

  4. The energy of the producer (plant) goes into the animal that eats it.

  5. Animals that eat ONLY plants are calledHERBIVORES.

  6. It is easy to determine if an animal is an HERBIVORE.Do you know how to determine if an animal is an herbivore?

  7. When the herbivore gets eaten, then its energy moves to themeat eater.

  8. A meat eater is called a CARNIVORE.Is this animal a meat eater? How can you tell?

  9. Some animals eat both PLANTS and ANIMALS.They are called OMNIVORES.

  10. This is an OMNIVORE.How can you tell?

  11. When an herbivore, carnivore or omnivore dies, they decompose and their energy return to the soil.

  12. Then the food chains and web start all over again!!Look at this food web…talk about the flow of energy.What if the rabbits and chipmunks were suddenly removed from the ecosystem?

  13. Here’s another food web!Turn and talk about what you see and apply what you know!What would happen if the mice were suddenly gone from the ecosystem?

  14. How about another one?This one actually has the sun!!What would happen if the oak trees were all burned in a fire?

  15. Here’s a pond ecosystem.Check out the food web.What would happen if the frogs were suddenly gone?
