Maintaining skills • Setting standards for safe practice . • Initial training – as defined by Faculty. • Updating and maintaining skills, ensuring competence. • Service level agreements in General Practice define standards expected. • Good record keeping – entry in patient’s medical records • Personal log, practice register. • Review of performance – annual audit

  3. Training and updating • FSRH accreditation and re certification requirements. • Continuing Professional Development - Lifelong learning . • Opportunity for experienced practitioners to keep up to date. • Opportunity to share experience with others.

  4. Different ways of learning • Structured learning – updating sessions or courses, e-modules, critical reading. • Discussion with others – regular meetings with other clinicians. • Self directed learning groups. • Share case discussions, problems, significant events. • Audit and review of performance

  5. Masterclass in Intrauterine techniques • Objective – provide an update for doctors and nurses who fit IUDs in General Practice. • Structured but informal – maximum 20 • Self assessment questionnaire based on current Faculty guidelines. • Answers discussed by group and facilitators. • Workshop – small group work with advice from trainers

  6. Workshop • ‘Hands on’ – model uterus, different copper IUDs and IUS. • Equipment – discussion about instruments, insertion packs etc. • Record keeping, audit and performance review. • Opportunity to discuss with colleagues and trainers. • Information about Faculty Guidelines , recertification requirements.

  7. Was it successful ? • Feedback positive. • Several GPs re-accredited under ‘amnesty’ arrangements for DFSRH and Letters of Competence. • Group learning and the opportunity to discuss with peers was very popular. • Requests for another session from GPs who were unable to attend.
