  2. Literal v. Figurative • Literal: using words as they are defined • I have a cat and dog. • The butterflies are very colorful. • Figurative: broadens the use of a word to make statements vivid • It is raining cats and dogs. • I have butterflies in my stomach.

  3. Simile A statement that likens two different things eyes diamond using the word ‘like’ Your eyes are like diamonds baby feather or ‘as’ The baby is as light as a feather
