  1. Different Types of Modern Window Blinds Window blinds have survived for a long time. The Persians used thick wet clothes on the windows to protect them from the desert dust as well as the scorching heat. The ancient Chinese used fashionable bamboo slats on the windows so that the inside of the room enjoys perfect privacy. The Venetians (the Venetians blinds are named after them), who traded with the Arabs, brought this concept from the Persians and produced the blinds to bring those to Paris to trade with the French. There are different types of blinds but Roman, vertical, Venetian, panel and roller blinds are the major categories. While many people use them interchangeably, these are actually different types of shades and they fit different types of windows the best. There are many agencies who sell blinds in east London where you can find the following blinds. Roman blinds are made from cloths and they fold up when they are pulled up. One single piece of cloth is fixed on the slats so the blind stacks up nicely on the horizontal plates when the chain or the cord is pulled. This type of blinds provide great insulation during the winter as they can be lowered all the way down and stays flat as a single piece of fabric. Roller blinds, on the other hand, are made of solid piece of cloth which rolls, instead of folding, when the chain is pulled up. There are no slats in these blinds so the whole thing is lightweight. Generally, aluminium cylinders are used at the top for rolling the fabric. Venetian blinds have no fabric but have horizontal slats. These slats used to be made of wood but in modern time, they are also made of aluminium or vinyl and they stack against each other neatly, when pulled up. When the slats are rotated from top to bottom, they allow light to pass through the whole blind. These blinds can be set at different angles to allow appropriate amount of light entering the inside. Vertical blinds are also called louvre blinds and they are similar to Venetian blinds, except for one difference, the slats are vertical i.e. top to bottom, as you can guess by the name. While, for smaller windows, there are thin vertical slats, vertical blinds are generally better for sliding doors or bigger windows. Buildings which have glass walls use vertical blinds to create an anti-glare screen so that as much light enters the inside as possible. Content is originally taken from: https://goo.gl/xseY7R
