  3. Lever A lever is a rigid object that is used with an appropriate fulcrum or pivot point to multiply the mechanical force that can be applied to another object.

  4. 3 Classes of Levers • 1st class (LFE) • 2nd class (FLE) • 3rd class (FEL) • *F = fulcrum • L= load • E = effort

  5. First Class Levers • Fulcrum is in the middle. • Examples: • See saw • Scissors • Pliers • Hammer

  6. Second Class Levers • Fulcrum is at one end and the load is in the middle. • Examples: • Stapler • Wheelbarrow • Bottle opener

  7. Third Class Lever • Fulcrum is at one end and the load is at the other end. • Example: • Tweezers • Tongs • Fishing pole

  8. Screw A screw is a shaft with a helical groove or thread formed on its surface and provision at one end to turn the screw. It can also be defined as an inclinedplane wrapped around a shaft.

  9. Wedge A wedge is an object with at least one slanting side ending in a sharp edge, which cuts material apart.

  10. Wheel & Axle A wheel with a rod, called an axle, through its center lifts or moves loads. When the axle turns, the wheel will also turn. =
