  1. Shooting of Congressman Spurs Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act New legislation by Rep. Thomas Massie is introduced after shooting of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise The concealedonline.com Reviews team proudly salutes a courageous lawmaker for stepping up in defense of expanding concealed carry laws across the nation! Following the horrific shooting at a Republican baseball practice, a GOP congressman is pushing for legislation allowing members of Congress — and others — to carry firearms in Washington, D.C.

  2. Shooting of Congressman Spurs Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky introduced the D.C. Personal Protection Reciprocity Act, a bill that allows people with concealed carry permits from other states to carry firearms in the District of Columbia. Massie explained that although members of Congress were practicing in Virginia — a state that offers concealed carry reciprocity — they were traveling to and from D.C. where it’s not offered. “I do not want to extend a special privilege to politicians because the right to keep and bear arms is not a privilege, it is a God-given right protected by our Constitution,” Massie said.

  3. Shooting of Congressman Spurs Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act The district does issue concealed carry licenses but applicants have to provide “good reason” — a condition which is currently being argued in court. Rep. Scalise was fortunate in at least one regard. As a congressional leader, he has a security detail assigned to protect him. That said, most members of Congress are not afforded the same protection.

  4. Shooting of Congressman Spurs Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act Witnesses at the baseball practice have credited Scalise’s detail with saving their lives. Massie added that, “To ensure public safety, we need to repeal laws that keep good guys from carrying guns, since not everyone has a personal police detail.”

  5. Shooting of Congressman Spurs Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act District congresswoman, Eleanor Holmes Norton, accused Massie of exploiting the tragedy, saying the bill would “abuse congressional authority over D.C. to undermine our local jurisdiction’s gun safety laws.” Massie fired back, citing Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 as the Constitutional basis for giving Congress the authority to pass such a law. Always vigilant, the concealedonline.com Reviews team is dedicated to showcasing current events that highlight the importance of state reciprocity laws! Thanks for the read!
