Data Governance • The essential notion behind establishing a K-12 data governance system is that decisions are only as good as the data on which they are based. • As we transforms data into information to facilitate wise decision-making, users and managers of K-12 data need to establish data definitions, data and process ownership and authority, accountability, security, and reporting needs and requirements. 2010 IBM Corp

CTE and Data Governance Value of CTE Data Steward engaged in Data Governance • Part of the discussion on the direction we are going with our data systems including our SLDS grant work • Any time something new comes along in the data world it is discussed at our Data Management Committee • Build connections with other agencies doing data governance work, CTC and workforce. • Alignment of all data elements & systems requires comprehensive approach • EDEN/EdFacts, CTE, other federal and state programs • Assessment of system capacity - internal and external

CTE and Data Governance How to accomplish this • Build relationships with IT, Student Information and EDFacts Coordinator. • Build expectation of leadership in the agency of inclusive participation • Invite yourself to meetings...it’s usually not against the rules • Clear documentation of federal and state reporting requirements - show the alignment of requirements and share current capacity/limitations • Expand scope of work and relationships with postsecondary and workforce partners - show the value of CTE in each sector
