  1. Minimize your efforts in setting up your Construction Business

  2. Minimize your efforts in setting up your construction business 1. Estimating for profit Creating a comprehensive and accurate estimate for the project you would like to carry on is the first step to achieve great profits. The sad part is that many contractors do not calculate the actual cost of a proposed project based on job costs, risk and overhead costs. The estimate must reflect these three components if you anticipate being profitable after completion of the project. Always remember that the difference between the bid and budget is the overhead and profit. An accurate estimate will determine the true cost and provide you with the ability to assess progress of the job against the predetermined plan. 2. Managing job production for profit Once you have been awarded a project, perform the work in a convenient, that is, cost effective way if profit is what you are aiming at. It may be good in theory, however, in practice it can be a completely another matter. Keep the following points in mind if you want to manage a project If you will not systematically track the costs and take the time to bill the change of work, you will definitely lose money on change orders. On the flip side, change orders can bring huge profit margins because there is no competition for the job.

  3. Minimize your efforts in setting up your construction business Create procedures to record changes in the field in order to trace the change orders. Always ensure that a sign-off is done on the approved work for billing. 3. Accounting for profit If you plan to account for your job cost, you will be increasing your profitability by understanding the actual costs that each job entails. Always have a proper accounting system before you start your operations in order to effectively account your daily bookkeeping records and meet specific requirements as a contracting firm. If you can streamline the processing and manage the compensation of your workers, bonding and liability insurance, you are on the right track to setting up a good business. If you place better accounting management, you will come one step closer to starting a profitable business. Understand the cycle of profit Profitability in the construction environment boils down to your ability to produce efficient results in the following areas. a) Estimating the job more accurately b) Finishing the job faster

  4. Minimize your efforts in setting up your construction business c) Implement construction-specific accounting processes d) Refine the cost of your job 4. Define your goals and set expectations Take your time to consider and define the goals of your business. This will be like a road-map for you to follow. Once the goals are set, you will be at a better place to guide your clients and employees to serve effectively the company’s vision as well the client needs. Define goals. Take some time to consider what you want to achieve with your business. What defines your success as a business. Emphasize on a long term plan and relationship over short term benefits. This will help you make sure that the company has a bright future.
