  2. Who founded the mission? • Father Fermin Lasuen on December 4,1786.

  3. Where is it located? On a hill at the top of Laguna St.

  4. Of the 21 missions founded by the Spanish, what number order was this one? • Mission Santa Barbara is the tenth mission that was founded.

  5. What do I think about this mission? • I think this mission is very interesting because it is (The Queen of The Missions). It was also founded by father Fermin Lasuen.

  6. List any special or unique qualities that this mission has. • It is the only mission to remain under the leadership of the Franciscan Friars since the day of it’s founding.

  7. Was the mission ever damaged? Was it fixed? • It was damaged in 1812 with all of the earthquakes going on. While they were fixing the church, they added two extra towers to the mission.

  8. Who lived at the mission? What Indian tribe lived at this mission? • The Indian tribe that lived there was the Chumash tribe. Padres lived there too.

  9. What was daily life like on the mission? • The padres taught Indians to build a water system, corn was harvested, cattle were raised, and everyone went to church.

  10. Did the Native Americans like their lives at the mission? • The Native Americans, must have liked there lives at the mission because they were given water, houses, food, and trade skills.

  11. What did the mission grow? • Cattle, oranges, animals, olives, wheat, barley, corn, and peas.
