  3. Line is the most basic element of design. • By manipulating a line you can create texture, pattern, value, movement, and depth. What type of line would you use to give the illusion of movement?

  4. Alexander Calder Unknown Artist Both artists create visual interest by using nothing but various types of lines.

  5. Contour Lines Lines that describe a shape of a figure or an object and include interior detail. These lines can vary in thickness.

  6. Gesture Lines An energetic type of line that catches the movements and gestures of an active figure.

  7. Implied Line A suggested line-one that was not actually drawn or incorporated in a design.

  8. Outline A line that defines the outer edge of a silhouette, or the line made by the edges of an object.

  9. Sketch Line A quick line that captures the appearance of an object or the impression of a place.

  10. Structural Lines Lines that hold a design together.
