  2. Southern Music- History • Florida became a state in 1845 but had to resign back into the Union after the civil war. • Georgia became part of the United States originally in 1788 and readmitted into the union after signing back after the civil war. • Georgia and Florida were both heavily involved with the confederacy during the civil war and the culture.

  3. Race • The races in Georgia are mostly Caucasian and African- American. • In Florida there are a lot of Cubans and Haitians as well as Caucasians and African-Americans. • Unlike the west where people are very diverse in how they are demographically, in the south the people tend to gather in one area.

  4. Southern Music • Music in the South is a lot like the music everywhere else in the United States. • The main music genres are: Popular, Country, and Hip-Hop. • In the south, thereis a diverse opinion about music and differentlifestyles.

  5. The Charlie Daniel’s Band- • The Charlie Daniel’s Band is a country/folk and Southern Rock band from 1975 to the present. • This song discusses some of the social issues that linger in the south such as needing more respect, more hard working men, and nice redneck folks. • This band is known to bluntly state their political, social and religious opinion on different situations.

  6. What This World Needs- Is a Few More Rednecks • http://youtu.be/8Au6qBLgk1A • The point of this particular piece of music is that there needs to be more respect in this world, more love, more hard working citizens and ethics. • There are some interesting things going on politically today and this song talks about ways that we could deal with those issues, by going back to the “simple days.”

  7. Continued… • In response to the song by The Charlie Daniel’s Band- one of my most favorite lyrics are as followed: • “What this world needs is a few more rednecks, some people who ain't afraid to take the stand. What this world needs is a little more respect for the Lord and the law and the workin’ man. We could use a little peace and satisfaction some good people up front to take the lead, a little less talk and a little more action, and a few more rednecks is what we need. • What most people call a redneck ain'tnothin’ but a workin’ man and he makes his livin’ by the sweat of his brow and the calluses on his hands. Now you intellectuals may not like it, but there ain'tnothin’ that you can do, 'Cause there's a whole lot more of us common folks then there ever will be of you.”

  8. This is Country Music Here is another video that supports what the Charlie Daniel’s Band is saying about the Social Issues of the South. -This song is by Brad Paisley and he talks about the different messages of country music and the comfort of the South. http://youtu.be/Fw5kOzGToec
