  1. Going GREEN at LFMS!!! By: Brandy Snyder and Jessica Self (We’re kind of a big deal)

  2. Our Green officers • To start us off right, we hand selected special officers in each one of our teams to monitor our green progress.

  3. Our Green officers had a great time at seat training…

  4. Our Ticket Program • Our green officers came up with the idea that if we wanted to change the teachers’ behaviors of leaving their lights on, there had to be consequences and rewards…

  5. Consequences • Each team at LFMS has 2 Green Officers. • Those Green officers go into their building during their teachers planning periods, and check to see if the teachers are turning off their lights when they leave the room for 30 seconds or more… • If the teacher is gone and their lights are left ON, they receive a red ticket. That teacher must turn in 10¢ with their red ticket to the school’s book-keeper.

  6. Rewards • If the teacher has left their room for longer than 30 seconds and they have turned OFF their lights, they are rewarded with a blue ticket with said teachers’ name written on the back. • At monthly faculty meetings, 2 blue tickets are drawn, and those winners receive either a dress down day of their choice, or a gift card to a local restaurant. • Teacher’s can only win IF they have paid any 10¢ fines that they have been given.

  7. Drafty Doors • A big problem at our school, that our green officers discovered, was that 36 of our outside doors were letting out air conditioning during warm months, and heat during the winter. • We solved this by replacing the weather stripping on our outside doors…

  8. A Bright Idea… • Because a lot of our teachers use a projector in their classrooms for instructional use, they also use LAMPS. • Our green officers found that most teachers were using incandescent light bulbs, therefore, we replaced our large amount of incandescent light bulbs with energy saving fluorescent light bulbs.

  9. Surveys • In order to find out who had drafty doors and bad-for-you bulbs, a survey was placed in every teachers mailbox. These survey were given to our maintenance staff, so that doors could have new weather stripping. Bulbs were sent to teachers needing them for lamps.

  10. Overall • Our energy officers are continuing to do a great job checking for lights left on, doors are being fixed, bulbs are being changed, and little by little our school is turning a lovely shade of green….
