Effective Ergonomics: Enhancing Health and Environment in Computer Usage
This lecture explores the ideal interaction between people and computers to optimize efficiency and health. Key ergonomic practices include using monitor filters, taking breaks, ensuring adequate ventilation and lighting, and utilizing adjustable chairs and footrests. Awareness of health issues like Repetitive Strain Injury, back problems, and eye strain is crucial. Safety precautions for a secure workspace and environmental considerations, such as recycling and using energy-efficient monitors, are also discussed. Implementing these strategies promotes well-being for users and minimizes environmental impact.

Introduction to ComputersLecture 7 Health and Environment
Ergonomics • Is the ideal method of interaction between people and equipment so that everyone works more efficiently. • To benefit from it, do the following: • Use a monitor filter. • Take breaks shall be kept away from the computer. • Adequate ventilations. • Adequate lightening . • Use adjustable chairs. • A footrest should be provided. • Use a mouse mate.
Health Issues • The most common health problems which can be associated with using a computer are: • Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) • Back Problems • Eye Strain
Safety Precautions When Using a Computer • Make sure that the electrical wires are in place and it is a safe and non-exposed.. • Keeping the equipment and peripherals clean. • Placing the computer in a well-ventilated area with an adequate temperature. • Ensuring power points are not overloaded.
The Environment • Computer users might affect the environment. • You can protect the environment by doing the following: • Recycling printer toner cartridges. • Using a monitor that consumes less power while the computer is inactive. • Reducing the need for printed materials by using electronic documents. • Contacting recycling factories if you want to get ride of any computer parts.
