  2. Review of Sessions #1 and #2 • What are multiliteracies? • Why are they important for Thailand and the ASEAN Community? • Technology is one of the literacies that are important. What are some of the others? • Why is critical reading so important for us and our students?

  3. Overview of Session #3 • Assessment in online or technology-oriented learning • Cross-cultural understanding, knowledge and sharing in the ASEAN Community

  4. Reminder/Overview of Assignments • Send your samples of student work to Shei Sanchez: shei.sanchez@gmail.com • Should be received by Ajarn Shei a week prior to the session.

  5. Assignment for Session #4 • Session #4 will be Friday, 24 August. • Send to Shei examples of student work that you feel reflect multiliteracy. • Please send to Shei your samples by Monday, 20 August.

  6. Assignment for Session #5 • Session #5 will be on Friday, 7 September. • Send to Shei examples of student work using critical reading skills. • Please send to Shei your samples by Monday, 3 September.

  7. Assignment for Session #6 • Session #6 will be Friday, 21 September. • Send to Shei examples of student work that reflect cross-cultural exploration. • Please sent to Shei your samples by Monday, 17 September.

  9. Some Issues • Plagiarism • Sharing assignments/copying • Depth and perspective • Other “typical” issues with assessment

  10. Some Resolutions • Assignments are joint/shared and submitted as a pair or group. • Students must submit web resources; teachers check out the resources and talk to students early about possible plagiarism.

  12. Cross-Cultural Challenges • The world is getting smaller and closer together because of globalization. • This means everyone is interacting more with people from different cultures and backgrounds. • This will be especially true in Asia as the ASEAN Community moves forward.

  13. One Activity • Friendship • Something that is important to everyone. • Something that we see differently and where there can be cross-cultural difficulties

  14. The culture of friendship • How does Thai culture view friendship? • How does US culture view friendship? • How do we learn how other ASEAN countries view friendship?

Understanding Yourself • Core beliefs – things that, for you, are non-negotiable in your relationship with others. • For example: I feel strongly about people being who they are and not pretending to be something other than they are; authenticity. • Share with a partner. What are some human qualities that are most important to you?

  18. Thailand and Singapore • See the handout on one aspect of Singapore culture. • Discuss with a partner. How is this different and how it is the same or similar to Thailand?

  19. Social Media and Cross-Cultural Relationships • Facebook • Twitter • Text messaging • Other communications • How can this help or hinder cross-cultural relationships?

  20. An Activity • Exploring a social media site and noticing opportunities and issues
