Joy and Hope Community Center • St. John the Baptist Catholic Church • Human Dignity • Religious Liberty • Solidarity • Subsidiarity
Long-term Goal • Establish a Community Center on the West Side of South Bend with open access to the youth in the area.
The Young are our most precious Resource • Every human being is an infinitely valuable one of a kind masterpiece created by God for a mission. • Many do not realize how important their contribution to society is, this facility is an attempt to help the young discover this value • As one enters the facility, they will be invited to “Seek the One who was, who is and will be, now and at the End of the Age!”
The Programs will be built on the These four Pillars • Human Dignity • Religious Liberty • Solidarity • Subsidiarity
Human Dignity • Human Dignity – Every person has equal dignity, while each has respective talents. • Human's find real joy and hope when they pursue the true, the good and the beautiful. • Sound science recognizes that every human life begins at conception and endures until natural death. • When we recognize this, we value each other and realize that no one is superior to another.
Religious Liberty • Faith is much like love, it can only be real in the context of freedom. • Our aim is to help all in the center to respect the faith of anyone that participates in any of the activities in the facility. • A person must be free to practice their faith, so long as that faith respects the dignity of another.
Solidarity • This is the ability to recognize that we all are members of the human family. • The programs are intended to deepen this understanding and facilitate the idea that we are all members of the human family. • Such an attitude will instill in us the ability to look out for each other and strive to aid them if we are able to do so.
Subsidiarity • This is the ability to empower those to solve challenges that are closest to them. • We will attempt to teach those in the programs to realize the contributions they can make to those nearest to them. • It helps people look to their neighbors first, rather than depend on those not connected to the community.
Phase 1 • The first phase includes a gymnasium, shower facilities, meeting rooms and a meditation space. • The phase will be about 15,000 square feet and the preliminary estimate for this type of facility is about $167 per square foot. • The median range for such a facility is projected to be $2,555,280
Athletics and Mentoring Services • The space will provide supervised events and opportunities for mentors and foster a love for learning • It will instill a real sense of sportsmanship, teamwork and mutual respect.
Our Strategic Alliance • St. John the Baptist grounds will be utilized without cost to the benefit of the community • Other prospective collaborators could include • University of Notre Dame • Other community organizations whose primary concern is to provide a safe place for at risk youths.
