  1. Food Revolution Day 16th May 2014 Food Revolution Day is about keeping cooking skills alive. It’s a day of global action raising awareness of the joys of cooking good food and it’s impact on our health and happiness. "Cooking is, without a doubt, one of the most important skills a person can ever learn. Once someone has that knowledge, that's it – they're set for life" Jamie Oliver WHY: Learning how to cook from scratch is one of the most valuable skills a child can ever learn. These skills used to be passed down from generation to generation, but now millions of people lack even the most basic cooking skills because of their reliance on unhealthy convenience foods. It now costs millions of lives and billions of pounds to cope with the increase in diet-related diseases. But this is preventable. We believe that learning basic cooking skills at an early age is just as important as learning to read and write. HOW: By making cooking fun for all and inspiring a love of food that will last a lifetime. We want people to get involved and show how important cooking skills and food knowledge are. It can be as simple as cooking a Food Revolution Day recipe, passing on a much-loved recipe or trying a new ingredient….

  3. 2014 Competition Brief What do you need to do? You need to research, design, plan and cook a meal for a specific scenario from the three options given. The meal should include at least two dishes or courses, and include details of a drink to accompany the food. You should think about the specific requirements of the scenario and show explicitly in the meal design how you have catered for these requirements. For example, you could show how you have catered for the specific dietary requirements of the type of people that would be attending, how you have sourced locally grown food, or how you have taken risks or issues with the venue into account when planning the menu. This year we’d like to see learners across the UK really embrace the ethos of Food Revolution Day and base their entries on healthy nutritional ingredients with inspiration for their dishes from around the world. Scenarios 1) You are catering for a dinner party for friends and/or family to celebrate Food Revolution Day, by preparing traditional dishes from a cuisine of your choice. 2) You are running a food stall at a school fete on Food Revolution Day. 3) You have taken over the running of the school canteen on Food Revolution Day and will be serving lunch to the whole school.
