  3. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) • BUET has been established in 1962. • Yearly intake Undergraduate is 900 and Masters and PhD programs is 1000. About 5,500 students are pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Engineering, Architecture, Planning and Science. • 500 Faculty members in 16 Teaching Departments under 5 Faculties and 3 Institutes.

  5. Institute of Water and Flood Management Established in 1947 to pursues research and capacity development in the field of water and flood management. 16 Full time Faculty members specialized in water and environment.

Climate Change Study Cell • IWFM has established a climate change study cell in 2008 • The vision of the Cell is to establish itself as the premier knowledge center on climate change risk and adaptation for Bangladesh. Chief Guest was Dr. Abdur Razzaque, MP, Minister, MoFD Launching Ceremony On March 08, 2009

  17. Vision The vision of the Climate Change Study Cell is to establish itself as the premier knowledge center on climate change risk and adaptation for Bangladesh.

Mission • To improve knowledge about climate change and associated risk to Bangladesh; • To increase awareness of the planners, policy makers about the effects of climate change; • To become institutional home for climate modeling and predicting future scenarios; • To strengthen capacity of professionals in climate change modeling; and • To share knowledge and expertise with other organizations.

  24. Activities in 2008 Short courses • Two short courses on "Climate Change Training for Water Professionals”, were held on 17-19 November and 18-20 October of 2008 at DCE, BUET. • Short Course on "Climate Change Risks and Adaptation in Water Sector" held on 10-11 February, 2008 at DCE, BUET.

  25. Activities in 2008 Regional Climate Change Modeling • Various regional climate change models such as PRECIS, RegCM3, MM5 etc. are now running at this study cell to predict future scenarios of climate. PRECIS domain over Bangladesh 25 km x 25 km
