Aims of the Project Wolverhampton Adult Education Service • Meet the needs of employees and maintain contact and motivation through a blended learning programme. • Facilitate learning conversations between the Deaf tutor and learners. • Address e-learning development needs of Deaf tutors highlighted in Teaching Observations • Establish and promote the use of the Institute for Learning’s (IfL) Reflect tool. • Promote the development of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) across the organisation.

Outcomes Wolverhampton Adult Education Service • A new area on the VLE organised into 5 parts • Learners’ forum and chat room • Introduction and tips for communicating with Deaf people • Topics (Greetings and personal information, The Weather, other topics under development). • Links to useful websites • Evaluation and reflection • An adapted Scheme of Work • 18 new users of the VLE, 12 of whom are learners • Electronic records of students’ online activities • 6 tutors as new users of the IfL Reflect log • 6 peer evaluations of project contributing to CPD

Next Steps Wolverhampton Adult Education Service • Populate VLE with two more units • Pilot a synchronised chat using webcams • Introduce blended learning approach in a range of 101 courses to be delivered in September • Make resources created available in the Languages development sessions • Plan opportunities for sharing good practice with partners and across the organisation
