Student Achievement Goals 2010-2012 • Albert Lea Area Schools will be above the state average at grade level in reading, math, and science according to MCA results by the end of 2011-2012. • Minnesota utilizes the MCAs to assess student progress towards state standards in reading, math, and science. • Albert Lea Area Schools will be above the state average on the ACT in English, Math, Reading, and Science by the end of 2011-2012. • The ACT, a standardized test, assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science.

What are we changing? 2011-12 • Professional Learning Communities will be aligned district wide to effectively increase student achievement. • Ensuring students have access to a consistent and viable curriculum. • Utilizing common assessments to gauge progress and identify areas of need and enrichment. • New K-8 science curriculum implemented 2011-2012. • Additional compensatory dollars focused on reading at secondary level.

  23. 2011 AYP implications • Distict- AYP plan outlining efforts district will make towards areas needing improvement. • Halverson- 3.2- corrective action in reading and watch list in math • Ayp plan from last year will be continued • If AYP is made in all areas next year, Halverson is off the AYP list • Hawthorne- 3.1- corrective action in math and 2.1- SES in reading • Ayp plan with mandatory corrective action component in place • Two years to get off the list • Sibley- 1.1- school choice in reading • Ayp Plan will be written to meet the areas needing improvement • Two years to get off the list
