  2. Objectives • Benefits • Identify online resources, services and tools. • Distinguish server side vs. client side optimization • Identify and apply the foundations of design for effective web page optimization.

Why Optimize? • Definition: The process of specifically designing your web pages to rank high in search engines. • Also seen as SEO (Search Engine Optimization) • Search engines account for 90% of total visitors to a website • If your site doesn’t isn’t in the top 10 to 20 links generated by a search engine your site will most likely never get reached.

  4. Why Optimize? • So why get optimized? • To gain exposure and recognition. • Whether it be business or personal. • Make money. • Your online business if you are using a website will not make much $ if your site is not optimized.

  5. Website Optimization • Major factors to look at: • Meta Tags • Title tag • Description tag • Keyword tag • Header Tags • Alt Image Tags • Text body Tag

  7. A Few OtherTips • Title tag, use only keywords, no “ands” • When Google reads a webpage, it views the text from the top left hand side of the page to the bottom right hand side of the page. Keep that in mind when your place your header tags. • Any keyword must be used 4 times or more in your site's HTML body. This is highly recommended for best ranking results. • Bolding, italicizing and underlining...

  8. Optimizing Assets • When considering how to better optimize your website its important to consider a few things. • User’s capabilities • Download size • Redirects • Site Maps

Server Side Optimization Vs.Client Side Optimization • Client Side Optimization refers to making changes to existing web pages that reside within the clients existing hosting environment. • Server Side Optimization refers to a collaboration between a search engine marketing partner where additional content is developed.

  10. Client Side • Requires thorough analysis and optimization of existing static pages. • Downside is that the best looking and coolest functioning sites don’t usually rank well…. • Meta-tags are on their way out…

Server Side • Content is developed and hosted in an environment where the SEM (Search Engine Marketing) partner has shared control. • Benefits are dictated by the effort of the SEM. • Non indexed pages may be converted into static content. (not nessarily a bad thing) • Example sites would be online retailers or travel sites.

  12. Server Side VsClient Side • Ultimately the specific search engines algorithms will determine the sites rank. • Both methods have their pros and cons.
