  1. Japanese gaming company Capcom falls victim to ransomware attack Japanese video game developer Capcom, falls prey to a ransomware attack by Ragnar Locker. It has demanded $11M in bitcoins as ransom. The Japanese video game developer, Capcom, has experienced a ransomware attack. The cyberattack, allowed unknown hackers to obtain access to its file servers and internal emails. For the uninformed, Capcom is the organization behind famous games such as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry. Apart from Japan, it has its branches in Europe and North America. The firm revealed the cyberattack through a recent notification. As unveiled, the firm encountered problems on November 2, 2020, that made them identify unauthorized access. The company has verified that this was because of unauthorized access carried out by a third party and it has suspended some services of its internal networks as of November 2.

  2. Nevertheless, the firm also states that the incident did not succeed in any data breach. Neither did it influence the company’s online services. Capcom encounters Ragnar Locker ransomware. However, Capcom has not revealed the form of attack that took place; however, some reports recommend it included Ragnar Locker ransomware. Ragnar Locker is a new strain that distributes ransomware payloads through virtual machines. Aside from this, the Ragnar Locker also steals data before encrypting networks. According to Techoffside, the ransomware attack affected 2,000 computers over Capcom’s network, thus resulting in the theft of one terabyte of data. They have listed the features of stolen data in their ransom note, besides giving some links to screenshots as proof of their claim. They have demanded $11million in bitcoins as ransom. The stolen data may involve employee information, financial documents, confidential contracts, emails, chat logs, and marketing files.
