  1. Releasing the Ministry

  2. Foundational Values Sensitivity to the Holy Spirit • Healing is His work, not ours • Be continuously filled with the Holy Spirit • Pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit • Trust the work of the Holy Spirit – but it is still a mystery at times • Bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit

  3. Foundational Values The place of faith • By whom is it exercised? • By the sick person • Noisy faith (Blind man Lk 18) • Silent faith (Woman Lk 8) • Reasoning faith (Centurion Lk 7)

  4. Foundational Values The place of faith • By the sick person’s friends • Centurion for his servant (Lk 7) • Jairus for his daughter (Lk 8) • 4 friends of paralysed (Lk 5) • By the pray-er • Jesus and Lazarus (Jn 11)

  5. Foundational Values Faith comes from • Hearing (Rom 10.17) • Seeing (John 10.37-38) • Doing (Matthew 17.18-20) • The faith environment ( Mark 6.1-6) Lord I believe .. Help my unbelief

  6. Foundational Values Other core values The Bible as the word of God • All scripture is inspired .. So that we may be equipped (2 Tim 3.16) • Read the Scriptures with the Holy Spirit as our guide • Learn how to pray biblically – be cautious over some aspects of ‘spiritual warfare’

  7. Foundational Values Jesus – centred • He is our example - ‘Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father’ • The first healing in Matthew shows ‘God wants to heal’ Matt. 8 • In the gospels to ‘save’ (sozo) sometimes means to heal or deliver • Jesus death on the cross is for our forgiveness and our healing (Isa 53.5)

  8. Foundational Values Love for the individual • Jesus dealt with each individual in a unique way • Our healing is greater than being cured of a particular illness • We need to learn to love and pray for others as we like to be loved and prayed for • Special care of the demonised

  9. Foundational Values Wholeness • God is committed to making us whole, not just healing immediate hurts • May the God of peace sanctify you through and through (1 Thess 5.23) • Personal Holiness (Heb 12.14) • Maturity in knowing God (Eph 4.13) • Healthy loving relationships • Godly response to suffering (Heb 12.11)

  10. Foundational Values The Body of Christ • The church together is the Temple of the Holy Spirit (2 Cor 6.16) • Our praise and worship often lead to a manifestation of God’s healing • We minister under authority of leadership & with clear guidelines • We should recognise the need for correction / accountability / mercy and forgiveness

  11. Specific Types of Ministry

  12. Ministering deliverance The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. 1 John 3.8

  13. Ministering deliverance Mark 1:23-24 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"

  14. Ministering deliverance Comments • Synagogue attendee • Demonised – a scale of influence Symptoms • The demon manifests during worship • Blasphemy Ministry • Silences the demon • Commands ‘come out’ • Visible and audible manifestation

  15. Ministering deliverance Common Entry Points • Deliberate sin and uncontrolled emotions "In your anger do not sin" : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. (Eph 4:26-27)

  16. Ministering deliverance Common Entry Points • Sexual immorality “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.” (1 Cor 6:18)

  17. Ministering deliverance Common Entry Points • False worship “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)

  18. Ministering deliverance Common Entry Points • Inheritance “You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.” (Exo 20:5)

  19. Ministering deliverance Other symptoms • Out of control physically (Mk 9) • Self-destructive behaviour (Mk 5) • Habitual sin • In the mind • In the body • In the heart • On the tongue

  20. Ministering deliverance Other symptoms • Violent response to the name of Jesus • Pain moving about in their body • Eyes rolling back in their sockets • Speaking in a different voice • Disengagement from the ministry

  21. Ministering deliverance Guidelines for ministry • Guard the person’s dignity • Take them aside • Minister in 2/3’s • Have someone of the same sex • Distinguish the spirit & the person • Dial down powerful manifestations

  22. Ministering deliverance Guidelines for ministry • Engage the person’s will • Ministering in daylight not darkness • Receiving the victory of Jesus on the cross • Being filled with the Holy Spirit • Committing to a holy lifestyle

  23. Ministering deliverance Guidelines for ministry • Trust in God’s power • The Lord in you is greater than the enemy - (1 John 4.4) • His power is made perfect in our weakness – confess our sins • The enemy recognises the church’s authority

  24. Ministering deliverance Guidelines for ministry • Provide appropriate follow up • Touch - love • Practical help • Emotional help • Spiritual help

  27. Ministering forgiveness Helping someone receive forgiveness • Encourage confession .. Aloud? • Pronounce cleansing • Sign with cross • Rededicate the body (Rom 12)

  28. Ministering forgiveness Helping someone release forgiveness Questions to ask: • God come and reveal the root of bitterness • Can you describe the trauma? • Are you willing to (learn to) forgive? • Can you now ask God to forgive the person who has wronged you?

  29. Ministering forgiveness Helping someone release forgiveness Questions to ask: • Will you now ask God to forgive you your sin of unforgiveness? • Now can you bless the other aloud as if they were here? • Holy Spirit will you come and heal?
