  2. Because of the earth's dire environmental conditions, people are now helping each other in finding ways to lower down wastes and consumption levels. Like many other professionals, architects also commit themselves to helping solve the current environmental issues and in saving the earth by designing structural buildings that are sustainable and environment-friendly. Through sustainable or green architecture, waste and consumption can be minimized. It also aims to promote and maximize comfort and the quality of life. Here are the top 5 latest sustainable architecture designs created by the prominent local architects and architecture firms in the United States and in other parts of the world.

  3. WOHA's Oasia Downtown Hotel in Singapore

  4. The Singapore-based architectural practice named WOHA is one of the well-known advocates for green cities. They are highly recognized globally for integrating social and environmental principles at each of the stages of the architectural design process of their projects, of which the latest is the Oasia Downtown Hotel. This plant covered 27-storey building takes pride and joy of its 1,100 percent Green Plot Ratio.

  5. TCA Architects's Hanover Olympic building in Los Angeles

  6. TCA Architects, a local firm in Los Angeles and one of the sustainable design companies in the world, has designed the first ever net-zero residential space in the city, the Hanover Olympic building. This structure is composed of 263 solar-powered apartment units. It is built with sustainable materials like reclaimed wood and recycled glass. Hanover Olympic building is situated in the South Park district, Los Angeles.

  7. Bureau SLA's Environmental Learning Center in Amsterdam

  8. Bureau SLA, a Dutch architecture firm in Amsterdam had designed a net-zero energy Environmental Learning Center building. The structure was built with a Trombe cooling and heating system and with highly visible solar panels.

  10. The Dixon Water Foundation of Lake|Flato is popularly known for both its current rank and its mission. Earlier this year, the structure was recognized as one of the top ten in AIA Committee on the Environment. Dixon Water Foundation is also noted as the first ever living building in the entire Texas. • Skidmore, Owings & Merrill's Kathleen Grimm School for Leadership and Sustainability in Staten Island, New York

  11. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill or SOM has long been recognized for being the leading player in the world of architecture. Just recently, SOM created a net-zero energy public school structure, the first of its kind in New York City. The Staten Island institution uses only half of the amount of electric energy that a typical city public school normally consumes. It is designed with a massive -paneled canopy roof.
