  4. Work Area: Cornell Notes Group Activity • Get into groups of two. • Use a Whiteboard and work the following problem in two ways. • Add or subtract the whole number and fractions separately • Convert to an improper fraction first and then evaluate. • 2 • 3. Be prepared to share with the class!

Put both fractions over a common denominator! Example: = = Step 3. Add the numerators and keep the denominators the same! Example: = Step 4. Put back in to mixed fraction form if possible! Example: = 2
