  2. What is turnitin? • Turn-it-in • A computerized tool in ensuring that papers/reports written by student is free from plagiarism. • http://www.turnitin.com

  3. Why should we use Turnitin • Vast Database • 20+ billion pages of web content • 220 million student papers and 90000+ publications • Prevent Plagiarism • Engage Students • A high Similarity Percentage will engage the students to take extra effort in trying to improve the report.

  4. Turnitin report will display the percentage of similarities based on: • Green : 1 -24% of Similarity • Yellow : 25 – 49% of Similarity • Orange : 50 - 74% of Similarity • Red : 75 – 100% of Similarity • SIMILARITY PERCENTAGE for FYP Report < 30% • For Chap 2 : Literature Review, similarity percentage < 20 %

  5. HOW TO START USING TURNITIN?

  6. Your coordinators will enroll you in a class and create an assignment under that class • They will put in your name and your email • EXAMPLE: • Name of class: FYP1 S1_1617 • Name of assignment: Report

  7. You will receive a notification email from Turnitin

  8. Name of FYP Coordinator Click here

  9. Assignment Click submit to hand in your report

  10. Click confirm button

  11. For first time submission, you will see the SIMILARITY PERCENTAGE in 10-15 minutes. For resubmission, the SIMILARITY PERCENTAGE will be generated after 24 hours from your resubmission.

  12. Click on the SIMILARITY percentage – Another window will appear

  13. FYP COORDINATOR’S PERSPECTIVE

  14. Important Notes • If somehow you forgot the Turnitin password, just click the ‘forgot your password’ link, fill in your name and email address & an activation email will be sent to you. (Your last name is your MATRIC NO). The coordinators DO NOT KEEP your password! • The turnitin account will be deactivated on 13th April 2017 (11.59pm) • Two things to be submitted with Chapter 2 (Literature Review) on 14th April 2017at ECE Dept: - Digital receipt - Screenshot of turnitin percentage • For any issue related to Turnitin, please contact me at rosmi@iium.edu.my
