  3. About Artemis Artemis was the goddess of the moon and hunt. Her brotheris Apollo, god of the sun and prophecies.Her father is the King of all Gods, Zeus, and her mother was the gentle Leto. Her Roman name is Diana. Artemis was Apollo's opposite. Her brother could be warm and loving. Artemis was cold and pitiless. Her Roman name is Diana.

  4. Artemis Artemis was very private. She hated anyone who interrupted her, spied on her, or intruded upon her. Artemis swore to never marry. Guess what? She never did.

  5. Artemis and Actaeon One day, Actaeon was hunting and heard laughter. He went to see who was laughing and to his amazement, saw Artemis and her attendants splashing in a stream. He should have left, but being young and foolish, he boldly stepped out and faced Artemis. Artemis splashed him with water, which turned him into a deer. His dogs killed him and Artemis never thought of him again.

  6. Orion Apollo saw that Artemis was spending awfully a lot of time with Orion. He challenged Artemis to prove her skill at archery by shooting at an object floating far out at sea. Her shot was dead-on. The object though, turned out to be Orion’s head.

  8. Symbols of Artemis The symbols of Artemis were the bow and the pike. Her tree was the cedar and her sacred animals were the snake, the bear and the deer. Her symbol of the moon was a sign of purity.
