Req. # 4: Four Materials = 25 pts • Construct set of rhythm instruments & storage container. • Construct felt visual that aids children in remembering the words to a round, song or poem. • Create rhythm words and visuals with a theme that fit the 2/4 time building blocks. • Contribute one sound-producing instrument made from found objects that could be used to generate a set of expressive instruments for a classroom.

  20. Req # 5: Recorded Music Time = 15 pts Plan, conduct and evaluate a 30-minute music time with young children 2 through 6 years of age centered on a theme selected from a prescribed list. Include all aspects of a balanced music time. Record this session (audio or video) and submit all parts as indicated. • Requirements: • Written Plan • Enactment & Video recording • Written Reflection

Written plan: 4 pts • In Word form provided or your own form, write up music session plan with title for each activity within the session. • Activity for each area: 0.5 each x 6 = 3 pts • Areas: Introduction; Singing; Rhythm; Instrument; Movement; Closing • Age-appropriate = 0.5 • Common theme / topic = 0.5 SUBMISSION • Post online on due date: • Drop Box A5a: Written Plan plus any other documents as attachment (Word, PowerPoint, PDF, etc). • Discussion Forum A5a: Written Plan copied into text; plus any other documents as attachment (Word, PowerPoint, PDF, etc).

Enactment & Video Recording: 4 pts • Enact activities • All activities do not have to be done together • Submit a video recording • Video cameras and/or mini-tripods may be available to borrow • You can usually use a regular photo camera’s video setting for short videos SUBMISSION • Bring to class audio or video recording for submission in-person (or post online if possible) on A5b due date.

  23. Req # 5: Recorded Music Time = 15 pts A5c. Written Reflection: 7 pts • Answer the 7 required questions in the “A5c. Recorded Music Time - Written Reflection” assignment Word form. (1 point per question) SUBMISSION • Post online on due date: • Drop Box A5c - private: Written Reflection Word document with 7 required questions. • Discussion Forum A5c: Any of your reflection that you are willing to share with your classmates.

Req. # 6: Synthesis Paper = 20 pts Describe importance of music in early childhood. • Your experiences participating in: • Making music, • Discussing musical expression with classmates, and • Implementing music with young children • Find and discuss one professional research paper. • Why do you emphasize music in your program? • Describe in one statement how music enables children to believe themselves to be creative individuals, personally and socially. • Requirements: • Post Draft and Final paper as Word document in Drop Boxes and Discussion Forums on due dates. • Adhere to minimum of 75 word count per section. • Reference research with sufficient info (~APA = best).

Synthesis Paper DRAFT: 3 pts • Research article(s) described in at least 3 sentences (0.5 pt) • At least 3 sentences on each of the 3 topics (2 pts) • Writing: readable, imperfect okay (0.5 pt) SUBMISSION for A6a.
