  2. ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013? • Just as last year brought many changes to the enterprise data center market, 2013 will likely see some exciting trends as well. • During 2012, traditional issues like power and cooling efficiency topped many news articles. • These issues will still be important in the coming year, but the emphasis will be on performance. • In 2013, the issues likely to get the most press will be the following:

  3. ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013? • Bring Your Own Device, also known as “BYOD” • As more and more end users want to use their own mobile devices, IT managers will be challenged to incorporate them into the work environment. • According to industry analyst Gartner, 70% of respondents to a December 2012 survey said their enterprise data centers plan to have BYOD policies in place within the next year. • The big push during 2013 will be for enterprise data centers to develop sound security policies to protect corporate data while allowing authorized access to users who have their own mobile devices.

  4. ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013? • New Server and Storage Technologies • Enterprise data centers will incorporate new server and storage technologies that will significantly improve performance of the IT infrastructure. • Examples include flash-based storage such as PCIe cards and system-on-chip (SOC) technology that enable servers to consume minimal power.

  5. ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013? • The Ongoing Demand for Bandwidth • Not only are greater numbers of enterprise data centers needed, but the bandwidth requirements within each facility are growing rapidly. • Bandwidth investments are expected to be significant in 2013. • Feeding this bandwidth growth are increased demand for cloud services, big data, disaster recovery and more.

  6. ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013? • Fewer Corporate Data Centers; More Multi-Tenant Enterprise Data Centers • Although this statement may at first seem contradictory, it makes sense. • Corporate data centers have been consolidating and this trend will continue during 2013. • Mergers and acquisitions is a main factor for this consolidation. • Companies have to eliminate the redundant IT systems and facilities. • But, as companies look to lower costs and shift IT focus to strategic projects, managed services and colocation at multi-tenant enterprise data centers will become more attractive business choices. • As companies increasingly use these services, providers will continue to build new facilities in 2013.

  7. ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013? • Modular Enterprise Data Centers • Modular data centers will continue to be deployed in 2013. • In a modular design, service providers build out data center infrastructure on customer demand in phases of 10,000 square feet at a time. • DCIM is Key for 2013 • Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software will be essential to improving data center efficiency. • It can manage things like enterprise data center hardware, cooling, power and more. • DCIM software can come in a variety of complexities with the price reflected in the number of features offered.

  8. ENTERPRISE DATA CENTER WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2013? • Enterprise Data Centers Providing Cloud Services • The cloud has really taken hold in most corporate IT department plans. • Therefore, companies will expect their data center partners to provide cloud services, especially for disaster recovery.
