Overview • A reading comprehension test measures how well you understand what you read. • Often includes a short 600-1,000 word passage followed by questions on vocabulary, plot, and characters. • If given in parts, there is usually one fiction, one science, one humanities (art, music, etc.) and one social sciences (psychology, sociology, history, etc.) passage

  3. Seen on • State Standardized tests (ISAT, Iowa Testing, etc). • SAT, ACT, and other collegiate level tests • Teacher certification tests • WorkKeys – An ACT for Employers

  4. Strategy • Read QUICKLY! - Take no more than 2 minutes to read 800 words. • Underline key words and topic sentences for each paragraph • When answering questions, always refer back to the text • Use Process of Elimination to get rid of answers that are wrong, then take your best guess.
