  1. TCCHS Cheerleading Tryouts March 25-29, 2013 3:30-5:30

  2. At TCCHS, we cheer… • Varsity football games (home and away including playoffs) • Varsity cheerleading competitions • Varsity basketball games (girls and boys; home and away including playoffs)

  3. Big Change For This year… • This year everyone cheers at least 2! • Girls can cheer • Football and Basketball • Football and Competition • All 3

  4. On the tryout application, girls can choose to be considered for… • Football/Basketball ONLY • Football/Competition ONLY • EITHER Football/Basketball OR Football/Competition • Football, Basketball, AND Competition

  5. Changes to application… • Can be made until the beginning of day 2 of tryouts (Tuesday) • With a signed parent note

  6. All Squads… • Are comprised of 9th-12th graders • Participate in summer practices and camps • Sell program ads during the spring • Sell program books at home varsity football games • Practice 2+ times per week in season before and/or after school • Promote school spirit through a variety of school and community activities

  7. Football/Competition… • Practices after school daily and selected Thursday mornings; will also practice on Labor Day and during fall break • Competes in 6 invitational competitions, region competition, and hopefully state competition • Season ends with the conclusion of region or state competition or the conclusion of football season, whichever comes later

  8. Football/Basketball… • Practices after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, will also practice the Thursday of fall break • Cheers home and away varsity football and basketball games, including fall break games • Season ends with the conclusion of basketball season

  9. General Tryout Info… • Upcoming 9th graders can take a bus from the middle school. Bus passes must be obtained in advance from the office at TCMS. • Candidates can change in the TCCHS locker room. Valuables should not be left unattended in the locker room. • Candidates completing the 1 ½ mile run in less than 15 minutes on Monday are invited to attend the next session of tryouts.

  10. General Tryout Info… • Mandatory attendance at each day of tryouts (unless candidate is a spring sport athlete with pre-approval from cheerleading coaches) • Only those trying out will be allowed in the gym • Candidates will be evaluated by coaches • Results will be posted by 6:30 pm on the last day of tryouts • There will be a cheerleader and parent meeting regarding camps, fundraising, etc. at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 11 in the TCCHS cafeteria for all new squads.

  11. Paperwork… • Required paperwork must be turned in by 3:30 on Wednesday, March 20 to Carrie Lasseter at TCCHS • Application & Consent Form • Physical • If on file at TCCHS, must be less than 1 year old • All 8th graders must submit a physical • Make sure all pages have the appropriate signatures and dates

  12. Appropriate attire… • Navy gym shorts • T-shirt or tank top (no midriffs); solid white or school logo on white background • Supportive athletic shoes (with socks) • Hair pulled back off shoulders (no metal) • Trimmed fingernails • No jewelry (including belly rings) • No gum • Water bottle (no soda)

  13. Evaluation… • Must run a mile and a half in 15 minutes or under • Teams will be selected based on squad needs • All squads will be evaluated on cheer, dance, jumps, showmanship, attitude, and work ethic • Stunting and tumbling ability as well as versatility will be also considered, especially for football/competition

  14. Costs… • Costs—Total will vary based on experience, squad(s), and ads sold • All cheerleaders will go to an overnight camp and receive a pair of practice shorts, practice shirts, a long sleeved t-shirt, and shoes • New cheerleaders will receive 2 pair of bloomers, pompoms, and a windsuit

  15. Fundraisers… • Football program ad sales • All cheerleaders will sell ads for the football program with a minimum goal of $1000 • 1/3 of ad sales will be credited to cheerleading bills • A CHEERLEADER CAN COVER HER ENTIRE BILL WITH AD SALES & COLLECTION!!! • Kid’s camp, August 17

  16. Payment… • Final cheer bills will be sent out in June after program ads have all been calculated. However, cheerleaders and cheer parents can calculate unofficial cheer bills as ads are sold. • All cheer bills are due on July 9. Cheerleaders that have not covered their cheer bills through fundraising or payment by July 9 will be dismissed from the squad(s).

  17. Considerations… • Before committing to a squad, please review cost associated with cheering, as well as the squad’s schedule. • If you have a job, please give the cheerleading schedule to your employer immediately after tryout results are posted. Most employers will be glad to work around your cheerleading schedule with advance notice. Work related absences are unexcused. • All cheerleaders are expected to be at all cheerleading events unless there is a personal illness or family emergency.
