New & Different for 2012-13 • Budget reductions • Rental uniform fee $50 for year to help with replacement and costs of uniforms • Staffing reductions • Travel camp for JV and Varsity • Lexington, KY July 14-19 (dates include travel) • Program and individual fundraisers currently in place to help offset expense

  3. GHS Cheerleading Philosophy • Support all Grandview athletic teams while promoting and upholding school spirit, unity, and pride. • We are athletes, therefore we are a competitive cheerleading team, and are committed to the highest level of performance and self-discipline. • We respect ourselves, our school, and our community.

  4. Coaches • Marcia Hoerl – Varsity coach, Co-Head Coach • 20th year coaching • Katie Guerrero – Varsity coach, Co-Head Coach • 10th year coaching • Marie Chavez – Assistant coach • 3rd year coaching • Assistant coach – hired week of March 12th

Important Dates • Optional Open-Gym Workouts • Complete CCE registration/waiver (www.cherrycreekelite.com) • Optional Pre-Tryout Clinics • Signed GHS cheer waiver to participate • Tryouts • Signed GHS cheer wavier to participate • GHS athletic packet due Monday, April 2nd (www.ghs.ccsd.k12.co.us) • Team Results and Conferences • First Team Meeting ($250 due) • Megaphone Club Coaches’Mixer/Parent Meeting • Uniform fittings

  6. Time commitment • Cheer practice schedule • Team tumbling/stunting schedule • Summer training days, summer weights • Choreography and Summer Camps • Game Practice and Game Schedule • Competitions • Fall Break • Team and individual fundraisers

  7. Scheduling Conflicts • ANY conflicts with: • Practices • Tumbling/stunting classes • Camps • Competitions • Fall break **Discuss with the coaching staff BEFORE tryouts. Dates must also be listed on tryout forms.

  8. Academic Requirements • CHSAA guidelines do not permit more than one F at any time during the cheer season. Failure to meet these requirements will result in ineligibility and/or removal from the team.

  9. Financial Commitment • Varsity • Game uniform available for $50 rental fee • Option to buy game uniform • Competition uniform & warm ups must be purchased • JV & Freshman • Athletic bag, game uniform available for $50 rental fee • Option to buy game uniform • Warm-ups must be purchased

  10. Expenses • Due within a 9 month time period (April – Dec) • You do not have to pay the total up front • Individual statements provided monthly • You must be current in order to tryout/participate • Credit cards, checks, money orders

  11. Fundraising Fundraising is an essential part of our program. A portion or ALL of your expenses can be covered – start early, and be active! Monthly fundraisers will be offered by the booster club beginning now Current and upcoming fundraisers include King Soopers gift cards, Butterbraids, Wolfcards, and Kiddie Camps Ideas are welcome but must be approved by our Activities Director.

  12. Megaphone Booster Club • Goals • To support consistent championship teams and the excellent coaching staff, promote continuity and interaction at all levels of the Grandview High School cheerleading program, create community service opportunities, and of course provide financial relief in as many areas of the program as possible.

  13. Tryouts • There will be approximately 75 positions available: • 25 for Varsity • 25 for JV • 25 for Freshman • We may or may not fill all spots for a given team and select teams based on natural break

  14. Alternate Positions • Purpose • UCA Nationals Squad Sizes • Benefits to the team • Benefits to the athlete as an alternate • Role as an alternate • How does the coaching staff choose who will compete at UCA Regionals and Nationals? • How does the athlete know if they are an alternate?

  15. Things we consider • Stunting Position • Flyer, Primary Base, Secondary Base, Spotter • Athleticism • Skill level in stunting, tumbling, cheer/dance • Overall Appeal • Showmanship • Attitude and effort • Coachability and potential • Academic eligibility

  19. Stunting skills to work on • Varsity Team – previous skills plus… • Scorpion • Full down cradle • Double down cradle (from front and side skills) • Kick full basket, Kick double full basket • 360, full-up, rewind, single base extension

  20. Cheerleading Skills Chant, dance, and fight song will be taught at tryout clinics Spirit & Enthusiasm:  Voice Projection (deep & loud)  Facial Expression (fun face throughout)  Body Language (confidence)  Appearance (proper workout attire, hair back, no jewlery, no nails)

  21. Cheerleading Skills Motion Technique:  Sharpness (strong motions)  Placement (accurate arm placement)  Precision (motions are hit on count/word)  Synchronization  Timing & Rhythm (in dance)

  22. Cheerleading Skills Stunting:  Form, Flexibility, Execution of skills  Level of difficulty  Stunting skills will not be taught at tryouts Tumbling:  Natural Progression (clean, solid tumbling) Form (legs together, pointed toes)  Tumbling skills will not be taught at tryouts

  23. Cheerleading Skills Toe Touch/Front Hurdler/Pike Jumps:  Pointed Toes  Height & Execution (correct form)  Landing Splits: right, left, middle Strength & Conditioning:  Endurance  Cardio Showmanship & Overall Appeal
