  2. THE ARTISTS AND YOUR AUDIENCE My magazine has three artists included that represent different races, personalities and backgrounds but are all connected with the love of music and the gift of singing from the heart. Throughout the photo shoot I tried to convey a feeling I want for my magazine I wanted to have a feel of comfort in simplicity. T This shows my model in casual attire, laughing an perfectly comfortable around normal people, showing she's a peoples person doesn’t consider herself any better than any other human being which is a part of the neo soul genre considering everyone equally seeing everyone as people rich poor, black white, male, female ect. This pose shows my model in a red silk (royalty, Aphrodite) robe (relaxation, simple) holding her shoes stopping to pick up a flower, showing how she enjoys the basic things in life. This picture shows my model as a normal person in an obviously distorted room but she's happy with just a ray of sunlight. Highlighting once more the simplicity and naturalism of my artists and my magazine.

  3. TARGET AUDIENCE • Neo-soul artists tend to be very well informed of world, spirit, music and politic culture. The neo soul audience has a very similar outlook on the world. They have a interest in raw music but not so raw, it is important that the music is that live and real. 18+ is the target age for my magazine, my audience has to be slightly ageist when it comes to my audience because it takes more understanding, a strong level of maturity and a headstrong mentality, the reader has to be able not to follow the conventions but understand the denotations. E.g., to love their own live like Melody Carols instead of striving to look like her and get the shoes she was wearing at the red carpet event. My audience will be highly diverse due to the fact that neo soul evolves from R&B (predominantly black and Hispanic) but is famous as a Caucasian style of music, the genre crosses language, religion and racial barriers. This is shown through my artists in the way that the three different artists are three different races. • My target audience is wide spread so its difficult to generalise what they would regularly do but the neo-soul audience are very in to creative literature. They like relaxation and classic simplicity, things like candles essence sticks and music calm their mood and open their minds, they are just flowing with creative energy. Neo soul artists tend to refer to themselves as Kings and Queens , Throughout my magazine development I have tried to add a mild feel of royalty to make the reader feel special and a part of something, a sense of belonging if society wont accept you we will as long as you come with a open mind, heart and soul. this is where I got the idea for having my main artists Camila and Tenika as queens. They represent different denotations which is why their queens of different suits. Specific examples of poses and language used and the connotations of both for your audience and those outside your target audience.

  4. My magazine is centred around these two artists. I used the fact that neo-soul artists refer to themselves as royalty because they are confident about loving themselves in a humble way. Melody Carols(Tenika Barton) is the queen of hearts because in my magazine she is referred to as a free spirit through my research I found that being a free spirit starts at the heart, she is also very close to nature I made a parallel with the goddess Aphrodite I wanted to create an artist that had sensual allure of Aphrodite, and a lot of female neo soul artists songs are about love, whether it be loving themselves, someone else or just life. Also she would capture my target audiences hearts with her sensual mannerisms and free spirit This is how Melody Carols came to be the queen of hearts. Lucy-loo (Camila Marin) is the queen of diamonds, she is referred to as a soul rebel, with a careless aura. She doesn’t care what people think about her or her actions she’ll ride a bike in ripped tights and expect a perfectly normal reaction she is not a conformist but she loves and respects everyone who respects her. She has a beautiful edgy quality that reminds me off a rare diamond on black velvet a little rough around the edges. And this is how Lucy-Loo came to be the queen of diamonds.

  5. I chose to enter a relationship with my audience by having my audiences personas reflected in my three different models’ personality. As they vary in thoughts, values and qualities but like the audience are united in their passion for music. This is shown in the way that my 3 models have different theme’s in their pictures conveying their personalities.

  6. Banner: Regular readers will look at the top of the magazine to know what the current edition is about, Funky female diva’s is more likely to attract females. I decided to make it funky female divas because I only had female models and I wanted to tell the reader there is a reason the magazine is centred around women to avoid readers thinking the whole line of magazine is gender centric. Light brown font contributes to the theme of meditation and calm. MASTHEAD: Legible relevant to the style of magazine, In the way that the font is a reminiscent of the 80’s soul scene which is part of the revolution of neo-soul. unisex, classical with a modern twist just like the style of music. Encourages reader to identify with it. Selling Line: A pair Of queens, highlights the titles I have given to my artists. Different to refer to royalty so casually. Attracting the audiences comfort levels. It’s Expensive because it’s only sold in specialist shops not in mainstream shops like WHSmiths. It is a specialist magazine and has a small amount of competitors. It has a loyal costumer base due to it’s authenticity, and it’s ability to connect with my chosen target audience. Language: Standard English, a hint of sophistication but only because it correlates with the theme of meditation, makes reader want to get comfortable and indulge not just read it whilst rushing to work etc. Plugs: use the ‘flash’ word exclusive to boost status, Summers, Lady Jazz, Lucy-Loo & exclamation marks to draw the audience the font is a more dramatic colour to make my chosen flash words stand out.

  7. Technical help • I found problems with using a tripod it was difficult to plan the time and pose I needed • Paint shop pro made my development easier • Publisher was very effeicient.
