  1. Intonation and Its Importance For Learning the English Language

  2. To completely learn any language you need to do three things - listen, read and speak. Out of all these three steps, listening is of the utmost importance. Why, you ask? Well, first and foremost is the way babies learn a language. Initially, all they can do is hear, and then gradually they pick up words, grasp them and try to say them out loud. As you can see, listening plays the most important role here, so it is clear that listening should be the very first step if you are planning to learn language. Moreover, by listening you also get to understand the various intonation styles of the language. English audio lessons are a great way to begin to understand the intonations. But, hold on, what exactly is intonation and how does it affect the learning of a language? It is an essential part of speech and we’ll examine it now in detail.

  3. Intonation is the tone, the music in which we say things. It’s not what we say, but how we say it. The way we say things, and the tone in which we say them matters a lot. For example, the same sentence spoken in two different tones by two different people would mean completely different things, owing to the difference in intonation.

  4. This is one of the most important reasons you should opt for English audio lessons. Reading may educate you about grammar, but what it will not teach you is intonation, and for that you will have to rely on listening - and what better way to learn than by listening to English audio lessons? Intonation is one of the features of pronunciation, along with others such as word stress, sentence stress, connected speech, rhythm, accent, and so on. In simpler words, you can define intonation as the ‘music of speech’. If you listen to English audio lessons, you will get to learn about the two main English intonation patterns: Falling – This is the most common pattern as far as English is concerned. In this pattern, the voice pitch lowers at the end of the sentence. Rising – This pattern is just the opposite of the falling pattern. In this, the voice raises at the end of the sentence. So, now you are well aware about of intonation and what it actually means. But using it properly is a different matter, which can be achieved only if you listen. Hence, listen as much as you can.
