New Structure • The next slide will show a new Student Voice structure which will bring the house and school council structure into one system. • The reason for this is to improve the status of the house system and to ensure we are not duplicating roles. It also gives the senior student team a stronger link to the houses. Giving them more responsibility.

  5. Rationale The change in structure has been devised to bring the House system and School council closer together. To work side by side. There is a need for closer communication between the two areas. So the idea is to have the head girl oversee all of this. Her deputies to be responsible for a house each. Each deputy will have a house rep from each year group. (one Rep for yr 7, 8,9, 10, 11) and a deputy, elected and interviewed from the other year groups. Each rep will be responsible for the two house forms in their year.

Communication So that the Helenswood Student Voice is effective staff and students need to be committed by; Having termly house assemblies To feedback to the tutor groups in their house what has been discussed in the House council ,meetings. Each Rep will be get feedback from the Learning Partners and suggest areas for the L.P to research on.

  7. School Website/ Intranet • There is lots of information about Student Voice at Helenswood on the school website: www.helenswood.e-sussex.sch.uk Students must make use of the Helenswood VLE and Student Intranet. They will be able to read messages on their briefing section

  8. The Role of the Head Girl She will organise with the head teacher and student voice leader the agenda for each council meeting. She will chair the meeting and appoint a minute taker from one of her deputies. She will attend all after school events that is requested by the head teacher and will be expected to speak at some of these events and /or help. She is to communicate her views and what she is doing via a blog on the website once a week. She will attend a meeting with the Head teacher and Student voice leader every two weeks. She will support all house events that is organised by her team.

The Role of a Student Head of House • To support the head girl at meetings and after school events • To help with the elections of House reps for each year group. • To meet three times a term with the student voice leader and with their house reps. • To organise house assemblies once a term. • To organise House events for students.

The role of the House Rep • To support the head Girl and student head of House in house assemblies • To help with House Activities • To feedback to their tutor groups in the house about council business. • To represent the views of the students in their house at meetings. • To attend all council meetings. • To be on a subcommittee.
