  2. ATTENDANCE Students arrive after grace period (10 minutes) for tardy a parent needs to call to excuse absence. Students must sign out of the building when leaving prior to the close of the school day. Parent permission must be communicated to school. Follow the DHS handbook and code of conduct.

  3. ASSESMENTS • Freshmen Year: Soc. Studies MEAP (Fall) and PLAN (Spring) • Sophomore Year: PLAN (Spring) • Junior Year: MME/ACT (Spring)

  4. Freshmen: Mrs. Patterson Sophomores: Mr. Crowley Juniors: Mr. Miller Seniors: (by Alpha) A-J: Mr. Crowley K-P: Mrs. Patterson Q-Z: Mr. Miller Guidance Presentations: Freshmen/Sophomores: Mr. Crowley Juniors/Seniors: Mr. Miller Counselor Assignments

DJH: Six hour day on trimesters 4 core classes all year 2 Electives each trimester Each class is 57/58 minutes Seminar each day (20 minutes) DHS: 4x4 Block 4 classes every day Meet with the same class for 9 or 18 weeks Each class 87 minutes Core classes 18 weeks long = 1 full year Seminar each day (29 minutes) Transition: DJH to DHS

  6. Time Management Organization Getting Help Getting Connected These are areas that are addressed through our guidance curriculum presentations with ALL 9th grade students. We will help with providing the skills and knowledge in these areas. Thus giving the students the ATTITUDE to be SUCCESSFUL at DHS. What Could This Transition Mean?

  7. Math Lab: During Seminar/PRIDE Writing Lab: During Seminar/PRIDE Homework Lab: After school – Monday thru Thursday (2:40 - 4:00). High School Services

DHS Graduation Requirements • 3 credits Math: Algebra 2 minimum • 4 credits English • 3.5 credits Science • 3 credits Social Studies • 2 credits Visual, Performing & Applied Arts • .5 credit Health • .5 credit PE • 2 credits of the same foreign language • An on-line experience (Career Cruising)‏ • Total required credits – 18.5 --------------------------------------------------------- • Total credits for graduation – 31 out 36 possible (earn 9 credits per year)

  9. Balance the core curriculum requirements over the four years!

  10. Develop a four year plan of classes to take. This will be a guide during scheduling times and a way to reach educational goals. Reminder that a BALANCE of classes is important. This process should be visited each year as it pertains to the student's current and future needs. E.D.P.

  11. English: 4 Credits • Freshmen – English 1 • Sophomore – English 2 • Junior – English 3 or AP English Language • Senior – English (variety of classes)‏

  12. Social Studies: 3 Credits • Freshmen – World History/Geography • Sophomore – US History • Junior/Senior – Economics (.5) and Government (.5)‏

  13. Math: 3 Credits Students must complete: • 1 semester of Algebra 1 • 1 semester of Geometry • 1 semester of Algebra 2 ‏ • 1 semester of another math or math related course senior year ***(if Algebra 2 is taken in junior year)‏

  14. Science: 3.5 Credits • Freshmen • Physical Science – Introduces ½ chemistry and ½ physics = 1 Credit • Sophomore • Biology = 1 Credit • Earth Science = ½ Credit • Junior • Chemistry or Physics = 1 Credit Science Electives: Upon completion of core science courses.

  15. Health = 1/2 credit and can be taken in any of the four years. Physical Education (Personal Fitness) = 1/2 credit and can be taken in any of the four years (recommend either 9th or 10th grade). Health/Phys. Ed: 1 Credit

  16. Foreign Language • Two credits of the same foreign language: • French • Spanish • Japanese

  17. Applied and Practical Arts: 2 Credits Band Choir Art Business Technology Foreign Language** Required two credits Family and Consumer Science Theatre Yearbook

  18. Student Services Office Hours Mrs. Patterson, Mr. Miller, and Mr. Crowley will be available the following days and times to meet with parents to discuss schedules: Tuesday, Feb. 26th: 9-11 and 12-2 Wednesday, Feb. 27th: 9-11, 12-2, and 4-7
