  3. What is a “Credit”? • Granted (by semester) upon successful completion • of a course. A “D” is a passing grade. • 2 semesters = 1 year • 1 full-year course = 1 credit • ½ year course = ½ credit

  4. Required credits for each class • Sophomore status (10th-grader) = 5 credits • Junior status (11th grader) = 12 credits • Senior status (12th grader) = 17 credits with the potential to graduate. • TOTAL CREDITS NEEDED TO GRADUATE: 24 + 10 Work-Based Learning Points • REQUIRED CLASSES: • 4 Math 4 English 4 Social Studies 3 or 4 Science Health • P.E. Fine Arts 2 Electives

  5. What are “Pathways”? • Professional Pathway • 4-year Degree • Examples: Shepherd University, WVU, Marshall, Georgetown University, etc. • Skilled Pathway • Community College (Blue Ridge CTC, Hagerstown CC) • Technical School (James Rumsey) • Military • Work

Honors vs. General Courses • Honors classes are determined by Westest scores, ACT Explorer results and teacher recommendation. • An honors class can earn you a one point bump in GPA.: • Honors A = 5 Quality Points • Honors B = 4 Quality Points • Honors C = 3 Quality Points • Honors D = 2 Quality Points • You do not have to take all honors classes – you can take 1, 2, or 3+ honor classes depending on your strengths.

  13. Additional Graduation Requirements • 10 Work-Based Learning Points • Examples: Band, Sports, Clubs, Jobs, Volunteering, Job Shadowing, Field Trips • Summer School • If you fail a required course (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health, or PE), plan on attending summer school.

  14. James Rumsey Technical Institute • James Rumsey Technical Institute (JRTI) • JRTI is a great resource to gain vocational/trade skills • Apply and interview as a Sophomore (10th grade) • Attend Junior (11th) and Senior (12th) Years

Scheduled visits • North Middle School: • December 4th – distribute schedules/Program of Studies with students • December 11th - meet with students to review and collect schedules • Spring Mills Middle School: • December 3rd – distribute schedules/Program of Studies with students • December 17th – meet with students to review and collect schedules
