  1. Color Unit: Three Year Olds Meghan Donlon & Tiffanie Pierce

ColorUnit:Day 1Red • Objective: Students will learn and identify the color red. • Procedure: Teacher will introduce the color red by showing the students the cover of “My Red Umbrella” by Robert Bright. Students will discuss what other things they can name that are red. Teacher will read the story. Next, the teacher will go to http://www.coloring.com/color/two-cats-in-love . The teacher will use the smart board and have the students tell what images should be colored red. • Materials: My Red Umbrella, smart board, pointer • Conclusion: The students will explore the color red by identifying items that are red, and using the smart board to color red objects

ColorUnit:Day 2 Orange • Objective: Students will learn and identify the color orange. • Procedure: Teacher will introduce the color orange to the children by showing them examples of orange items: an orange, orange ball, orange crayon, etc. The teacher will then read, “Each Orange Had 8 Slices”. After reading the book the teacher will go to the web site, http://artpad.art.com/artpad/painter/?RFID=140772 and the children will be able to manipulate the mouse to draw their own “orange” picture. • Materials book, orange objects, computer • Conclusion: The children will be exposed to the color orange and then be encouraged to create pictures using the the color orange.

  4. ColorUnit:Day 3 Yellow • Objective: Students will learn and identify the color yellow. • Procedure: Teacher will show the students yellow items such as bananas, a cut pineapple, sunflower, ect. The teacher will ask the students what other things in the classroom are yellow. Next, the teacher will read the book Yolanda's yellow school by Kelly Asbury. Following the book the teacher will go to http://www.thecolor.com/Coloring/Banana.aspx and the students will color in the bananas on the white board. • Materials: yellow items, “Yolanda’s Yellow School” book, smart board, and computer. • Conclusion: The children will discover the color yellow by exploring yellow items found throughout the classroom and coloring yellow items using the smart board.

  5. ColorUnit:Day 4 Green • Objective: Students will learn and identify the color green. • Procedure: Teacher will show the children the book, Go Away Big Green Monster. The teacher will talk about the green monster and ask children to point to objects in the room that are also green. Next, the teacher will go to http://edamonth.homestead.com/readbiggreen1.html and the children can listen and view the story via the smart board. Afterward, the children can draw the green monster on an online art tablet. • Materials: book and smart board • Conclusion: The children will discover the color green by visualizing the color green throughout the classroom and t being exposed to it via the smart board.

  6. ColorUnit:Day 5 Blue • Objective: Students will learn and identify the color blue. • Procedure: Teacher will read the story, “Rainbow Fish and The Big Blue Whale”. The children will talk about blue mammals found in the ocean (fish, whales, some sharks, etc). The children will then take a virtual field trip to http://www.neaq.org/index.php where they will visit an aquarium and see live underwater “blue” sea life. • Materials Book and computer • Conclusion: The children will discover the color blue by being able to visualize “live” sea life right in their own classroom.

ColorUnit:Day 6 Brown • Objective: Students will learn and identify the color brown and review all of the colors from the unit. • Procedure: Teacher will introduce the color brown by showing the students the cover of “Brown Bear Brown Bear”. Students will discuss what other things they can name that are Brown. teacher will read the story. Next, the teacher will go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdHCYgO9zh8. The students will hear the Bill Martin read the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear. • Materials: Brown Bear, Brown Break, Smart Board, • Conclusion: Teacher and students will review all the colors they learned during the unit.
