  1. Welcome to Centennial Campus Magnet Middle School6th Grade Orientation

  2. Meet Our Administration Assistant Principal, Mrs. Shawnya Spruill Principal, Mrs. McMillan

  3. Website Overview • How can I help my student stay on track in addition to the daily usage of the student agenda? • Look at CCMMS’ website for staff web pages! • CCMMS Homepage • Team websites contain individual teacher websites. • *See the front office for HomeBase information downstairs.

  4. CCMMS Grading Policy • Homework will count as no more than 15% of the overall grade for each quarter. • Core teachers will assign up to 15 minutes of homework per class nightly. • Homework will be directly aligned to NC objectives • Homework • Grades will be given on homework assignments where feedback on accuracy is provided. • Homework grades will not be given for completion only.

  5. CCMMS: Classroom Work & Assessments • Assignments not turned in AND not aligned to missed work guidelines, will be given a zero. • It is noted that each Friday includes a Grade Recovery period in which students will be provided time to complete assignments. • Assignments will be completed by the communicated due date. • Classwork and assessment grades will not include punitive deductions due to behaviors (ex. talking during a presentation, no name on paper).

  6. CCMMS: Missing Work • If the make-up work has not been assigned in advance, for absences of one (1) to three (3) days, the student will have one day for each day absent. • For absences exceeding three (3) days, the student may have two (2) days for each day absent to make up work. • Special consideration will be given in the case of extended absences due to injury or chronic illness. • The absence is approved in advance and/or if the work is assigned by the teacher in advance, all make-up work, including tests assigned for the day of return, is due upon the student's return to school. • Teachers should use discretion and may make exceptions in the case of students whose excused absences were not planned in advance, were beyond the student' control, and the nature of which would not support make-up work the day of return

  7. Prevention-Intervention Plan • Smart Block will provide four, 30 minute intervention sessions a week to prevent and intervene when academic failure is a risk in core classes. • This is in addition to one Grade Recovery session provided a week. • If students have not completed a graded assignment OR have received a test/project grade 76 or below they are able to attend a Grade Recovery session. • Teachers will communicate with students and parents grades by updating the student’s HomeBaseaccount on the first and third Wednesdays of the month beginning August 6th, 2014.
