  9. Kurt Salisbury-Pre-AP Class Requirements Pre-AP Math (7th Grade Math) This is an advanced math class for students who are not ready for 8th grade math—but are advanced in math. Pre-AP Pre-Algebra (7th/8th grade math) Placement in this class will be based on several items of data including STAAR scores, district achievement tests, and a standardized aptitude test. Pre-AP Science • Writing assignments required • High Level Math Skills required • Science Fair Optional • UIL Recommended Pre-AP English • Summer Reading required • The Giver by Lois Lowry • Info flyers available Pre-AP History • Independent work required outside of class (critical thinking& in-depth analysis) • History Fair Optional • UIL Recommended

  10. If you decide to take a Pre-AP class, it will involve a heavy homework load and more challenging course material. *PRE-AP ENGLISH *PRE-AP HISTORY *PRE-AP SCIENCE *PRE-AP MATH (7TH Grade Math) *PRE-AP Pre-Algebra (7th/8TH Grade Math)

Coach Ochoa and SlaughterATHLETICS/P.E. • Any student interested in participating in athletics must have a completed pre-participation packet along with a physical on file with the MMS athletic trainer prior to participation. All forms will be completed online after April 1. • If a student plays more than one sport, select the sport whose season occurs first. • A physical is NOT required for P.E. classes or beginning tennis. • In late April or early May – Physicals will be done at the high school on a Saturday. The cost will be $15.00.

ATHLETIC COURSES Choose 1 of the following: ____ Football ____ Girls Volleyball ____ Boys Basketball ____ Girls Basketball ____ Boys Soccer ____ Girls Soccer ____XC and Track *Note: Coaches will conduct performance based eliminations (cuts)as necessary. These cuts will create schedule changes for students eliminated. ____Tennis Tennis Tryouts - for Intermediate/Advanced Tennis WHEN: Saturday, April 7th, 1:00-2:00pm Where: MHS tennis courts *Golf is an after school offering in the spring semester.(Not for credit) Reminder: the above listed courses require a physical and completion of the pre-participation packet.   13. Summer Football Camp • June 3-6 • 8am-11am • Cost $100 Other sports camp information will be on midwayisd.org soon! • Free and reduced lunch qualifiers $25 • Employee kids $50

  14. P.E. COURSES Choose 1 of the following if you are not doing a sport: ____ Boys P.E. ____ Girls P.E. ____ Beginning Tennis ____ Outdoor Adventure ____ Partner’s P.E. _____ Off-Campus P.E. Reminder: these courses DO NOT require a physical.

  15. Shana Wetzel Electives • Indicate the order of preference for your elective classes by numbering them 1-2-3-4-5. • Your top 3 choices will be placed in your schedule. • However, be happy with 4 and 5 because they might end up in your schedule.

Computer coursesGateway To Technology, Coding, or Robotics • Gateway to Technology needs to be taken in concurrent enrollment with robotics if robotics is a desired course. • Coding is offered in the 7th grade only • Robotics and GTT are both offered to 8th graders as well. You can’t take these classes again in 8th if already taken them in 7th grade. • Coding is a more individual student driven curriculum. GTT and robotics utilize group work in teams.

  18. April Harris STAAR Important to remember: • A STAAR mastery class may be substituted as an elective for 7th grade students who do not master portions of the 6th grade STAAR tests. • Insights Math or Insights Reading

  19. Course selction procedure: • Fill out the green 7thgrade course selection card. • The 2019-2020 MMS Course Catalog is on the MMS webpage for further course information. 2. MMS Counselors will need you to turn in your choice cards by March 8th to your current homeroom teacher. 3. A verification sheet will be sent home in your student’s back pack. You must email your child’s MMS counselor with changes before May 1. After this date we will hire teachers based on your choices. Only performance based changes will be made during the summer and the beginning of the school year.

In addition, a parent signature and contact phone number are required as well. • An email will be sent out to parents to look for the course verification sheets. If there are changes to be made in your selections-email the appropriate MMS counselor with changes by May 1st.

  23. GT Humanities • If you have a student that has a GT identification and would like them to take the new Humanities course offering for GT students: • WRITE IN THIS COURSE ON THE GREEN SHEET! Humanities will blend English and History classes into 1 block. • This class will be taught in a way that is specific for the Gifted and Talented style of learning.
